True Colors!

As I watch ships pass by our port city of Port Townsend, Washington, heading toward the major ports of Seattle and Tacoma to unload their cargo, besides the writing on the sides of the vessels IDENTIFYING the company owning them, each one flies a flag. The flags flown above them IDENTIFY the country of their homeport. There are vessels flying flags of the United States, of Canada, China, Japan, and other places.

There have been times when a vessel has sailed under the colors of another nation in order to deceptively approach other vessels or ports. Therefore, the expression "Sailing under false colors" has become used for describing being hypocritical or pretending to be something one is not. Displaying our "colors" declares with what or whom we IDENTIFY, but are we true to them? What are the "true colors" we are living under? What banner flies above our life to which we give our full allegiance as the sovereign power under which we are navigating life?

In Paul's first letter to Timothy he noted JESUS as the "ONLY SOVEREIGN, the King of kings and Lord of lords". ( 1 Timothy 6:15 ESV) Regardless of where we are and what we are doing, are we remaining under His banner? Are we living to always be IDENTIFIED with the Lord and His Will?

In his letter to the church at Rome, Paul noted what we as Christians need to keep in mind. We read . . .

"(7) For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. (8) For if we live, we LIVE TO THE LORD, and if we die, we DIE TO THE LORD. So then, WHETHER WE LIVE OR WHETHER WE DIE, WE ARE THE LORD'S." ( Romans 14:7-8 ESV)

No deception. No hypocrisy. Full allegiance to Jesus whether facing life or death. May the "true colors" of that relationship ever be flown so that others will know to Whom we belong and that the greatest citizenship one can be blessed with having is that of Heaven.
