Pay Attention!

When someone is talking to us it is far too easy for the mind to wander. Sometimes it takes someone saying, "Pay attention!", to draw our focus back to what is being explained or said. This is often true in the interaction between parents and children. However, as children of God, how well are we doing at paying attention to what He has declared?

In the middle of telling several parables and explaining them to His disciples, Jesus stated. . .

"(24) And he said to them, 'PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU HEAR: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and STILL MORE WILL BE ADDED TO YOU. (25) For to THE ONE WHO HAS, MORE WILL BE GIVEN, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.' "( Mark 4:24-25 ESV)

Rather than a physical measure, Jesus seems to have been referring to the ATTITUDE toward His teaching. In the refusal to see and hear, there were some who could just never get it. It was not so much their ears were closed as it was their minds were and what knowledge they did have was not fruitful. A spirit of understanding was lost. Some who thought they knew, really did not; though claiming to see they were really blind. ( John 9:41) No matter what Jesus did or said, they would not be convinced. Had He been listened to, so much more would have come to light. (note 1 Corinthians 2:14 & 2 Corinthians 3:14)

When Jesus is recognized for Who He is, then the whole of Scripture begins to make more sense. In Him we can begin to see more clearly how it all fits together as He was part of the plan from the very beginning. May the measure of approaching God's Word be that of the WHOLE HEART AND MIND so that we may grow more and more in the knowledge of God's Will.

Have a great day LISTENING WELL TO LIVE WELL FOR THE LORD!
