Hitting The Mark!

From what perspective do we LAUNCH our actions and thinking? Some people merely live aiming to please those around them. When that group changes, so do their aims. Such may mark the life of those with no true convictions regarding what is good and what is not in life. Does it surprise us what is sometimes applauded and honored in the world today? Does it seem like foolishness when we consider what the wisdom of God reveals?

Solomon asserted . . .
"(8) Like one who BINDS THE STONE IN THE SLING is one who gives honor to a fool." ( Proverbs 26:8 ESV)

Picture the illustration. What use is a sling with its stone tied into it? The stone is meant to be LAUNCHED toward a target, but how can it when it has been bound within? No matter how much force might be behind the swing, the aim and the stone benefit nothing. It is also possible for the stone merely to come back on the slinger to their own injury. Picturing the pullback type slingshots of today we could see how easily the stone could merely snap back at the launcher.

Giving honor to the foolish or to foolish ideas reveals a lack of understanding the purpose of such acknowledgement. This type of action actually serves to LAUNCH further that which is contrary to the wisdom of God. Since it is ultimately God's purpose that stands ( Proverbs 19:21) energy expended other directions is merely wasted.

It is folly to follow any other way but God's. (i.e. John 14:6) It is His Way that leads to the ultimate mark for which we should aim. May we remain careful regarding what we seem to applaud and uphold in society so that it is always clear our aim is fixed on honoring the Will of God!
