Our Delight!

Yesterday we noted the idea of delighting in the works of God. ( Psalm 111:2-4) One aspect of God's great and beneficent work is the providing of righteous commands to lead to righteous living. The next psalm begins. . .

"(1) Praise the LORD! BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO FEARS THE LORD, WHO GREATLY DELIGHTS IN HIS COMMANDMENTS! (2) His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. (3) Wealth and riches are in his house, and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS ENDURES FOREVER." ( Psalm 112:1-3 ESV)

This psalm followed the expression of the previous psalm which noted "the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom." ( Psalm 111:10 ESV) Therefore, these two psalms appear to be closely linked; the one leading into the other. Those who have a proper reverential fear of the Lord will delight in His works, including HIS COMMANDS. However, not all delight in the COMMANDS OF GOD. They delight in doing their own thing. What then becomes of their life and their works? With some, their works simply die with them. The delight is only for this realm. It is the righteous (those living to please the Lord), who have their deeds follow them. ( Revelation 14:13)

By living godly lives we have the potential of bringing blessing to the lives of others, especially to those of our family and the generations which are to follow us. Living in the righteousness of God we can leave a legacy behind worth following, thus equipping subsequent generations with a foundation on which to build and bless even more generations. May our delight continue in the COMMANDS OF GOD so that we will exercise wisdom that leads to a delightful God pleasing life now and a most delightful eternity to come! It is the blessing we receive from Him.

Have a great day FINDING PLEASURE IN PLEASING GOD!
Carl
