The Living Word

[NOTE: This hymn was written while I was preaching a series of lessons from the Gospel of John]
THE LIVING WORD
(Carl Hanson, July 1988)
[ John 1:1-4; Gen. 1; Rom. 6]
In the beginning before earth was formed
The Creator of all things, His powers performed.
God said, "Let there be" and behold there it stood
And He looked it over and said it was good.
In the beginning, we're told was the Word
With God when all this creation occurred.
Through Him and with Him, yes, all things were made,
But that's only one of the parts the Word played.
(CHORUS)
Powerful, powerful is the Word
Giving light and life to all who've heard.
In Him our salvation is assured;
In Jesus Christ the Living Word.
Not only was the Word there with God,
But John points out that the Word was God.
The Word became flesh and dwelt among men
To show forth the way to the Father in Heav'n.
In Him was Life and that life was the light
Of men who accepted the Way that is right.
The light shines in darkness, the Way to reveal
To life that's abundant and life that is real.
(chorus)
He paid the price for the sins we have done.
In Him we're assured that the vict'ry is won.
O'er sin and o'er death and it ever shall be
The Living Word gives us that sure victory.
Won't you confess Him as Savior today?
Be buried with Him in the scriptural way,
Then rise to the New Life, redeemed by His grace,
And live for the day we shall look on His face.
(chorus)
