Mind Set Up!

Someone has said, "Heavenly minded people do the most earthly good." What contributes to making it so? The worldly mind tends to rest the focus on what self desires, what will help one get ahead in this realm, or what merely relates most to the here-and-now. The Heavenly mind includes a focus on that which relates to pleasing God and the eternity yet to come.

In Paul's letter to the church at Rome, he exhorted. . .
"(5) For those who live according to the flesh SET THEIR MINDS on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit SET THEIR MINDS on the things of the Spirit. (6) For to SET THE MIND on the flesh is death, but to SET THE MIND on the Spirit is life and peace. (7) For the MIND THAT IS SET on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. (8) Those who are in the flesh cannot please God." ( Romans 8:5-8 ESV)

Is our mind more FOCUSED on the flesh or the Spirit? If we live life simply to please our own fleshly desires or the world we will be no different from it, which would hamper (if not totally eliminate) our potential for being the salt and light God has called us to be in this unseasoned, decaying, and dark world. It is with a FOCUS toward striving to please God that we are enabled to bring a little heaven to earth. (In a sense this is what Jesus' walk on earth did.) We need to maintain a HIGHER MIND-SET than that of the world. A worldly mind may bring us some semblance of peace with the world around us, but only the HEAVENLY MIND will bring us peace with God. May our FOCUS remain on the things of the Spirit as we go about our daily activities.
