Knowingly Knowing!
It has been noted that "knowledge is power." The more one knows, the more empowered they may become to discuss issues and stand for what is true. Knowledge can keep one from being taken advantage of due to gullibleness or mere ignorance of facts.
It has also been stated that "a little knowledge can be dangerous." Perhaps something is attempted without all the facts and such a person finds themselves in trouble or even getting injured.
Then there are those who get arrogant and all puffed up ( 1 Corinthians 8:1) because they think they have attained so much knowledge. They know so much they don't need to listen to anyone else. Having attained a great deal of knowledge can create the tendency to look down on others.
James urged. . .
"(13) Who is WISE and UNDERSTANDING among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the MEEKNESS OF WISDOM." ( James 3:13 ESV)
James implied that understanding and wisdom prompt a spirit of MEEKNESS rather than arrogance. The Greek "prautes" (translated "MEEKNESS") refers to "mildness of disposition, gentleness of spirit, and meekness. [source: W.E. Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words] The Greek root "praus" was used in secular Greek in reference to mild things, taming animals, or gentle persons. A good representation of MEEKNESS is power under control such as a strong stallion brought under control. In consideration of the idea that "knowledge is power", if it is in association with the "MEEKNESS OF WISDOM" or the wisdom from above ( James 3:17), then it would be under control. In spite of much knowledge attained, such wisdom will cause one to be gentle rather than domineering or to use the knowledge in a manner that is beneficial to others rather than putting them down. Worldly wisdom -- as James described it ( James 3:15-16) -- is counterproductive.
Do we have knowledge? Are we seeking to attain more? Are we wise and understanding with regard to that knowledge? May it be revealed in the good conduct of a life characterized by MEEKNESS. Such a spirit will go a long way in opening the door to share the wisdom from above with others.
Have a great day WITH DAILY CONDUCT REVEALING A WISDOM FROM ABOVE!
