Just One Simple Law!
As we noted yesterday, there are many laws on the books. Some laws are broken intentionally. Others are broken out of ignorance. Either way, consequences are suffered when one is caught breaking the law. Governments expect their laws to be known. Therefore we ought to become familiar with what they are where we live or the ones associated with the activities with which we get involved (i.e. hunting, fishing, boating, driving, etc.).
Imagine what a different world this would be if just one very significant law was obeyed by everyone around the world. What a difference it would make in the home, in the church, and in society at large if every human being on the face of this earth simply followed the LAW OF LOVE!
In his letter to the church at Rome, Paul acknowledged the power of human government. ( Romans 13:1-5) He then went on to note the one law that would make so much difference in this world if at least it was obeyed.
We read. . .
"(8) Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for THE ONE WHO LOVES ANOTHER HAS FULFILLED THE LAW. (9) For the commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,' and ANY OTHER COMMANDMENT, ARE SUMMED UP IN this word: 'You shall LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' (10) LOVE DOES NO WRONG TO A NEIGHBOR; therefore LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW." ( Romans 13:8-10 ESV)
LOVE fulfills God's law! If everyone LOVED as God has commanded there would be no adultery, but instead people would be faithful in their relationships and seek to nurture them. There would be no stealing because what belonged to others would be respected. There would be no coveting because people would rejoice with others over what they possessed, rather than desiring to take it for themselves. And Paul implied the list goes on with regard to other areas where LOVE would make a dynamic difference.
Yes, keeping in mind one command of God would make a world of difference in our relationship with God and with others. "LOVE does no wrong." LOVE does what is right! How much more simple could it be? Keeping in mind JESUS' LOVE as the standard for ours ( John 13:34), may we do our part in changing the world around us through the POWER OF LOVE for God and for others.
Have a great day FULFILLING OUR DIVINE ROLE IN THIS WORLD!
Carl
