His Provided Strength!
With the help of the strength of others we are enabled to do more. With the strength of God our life can be sustained through life's challenges and His will can be accomplished in and through us. Isn't it wonderful there is power beyond ourselves from which to draw?
Using his own life as an example, Paul encouraged the Christians at Philippi. . .
"(11) Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. (12) I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. (13) I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH HIM WHO STRENGTHENS ME." ( Philippians 4:11-13 ESV)
Paul had some challenges in his life. He experienced some good times and some hard times. He had faced times of plenty and times of need. I often focused on Paul's statement in verse thirteen from the standpoint of being able to actively do something. "I can do" usually implies action. With the strength of the Lord I can get out there (if I am willing) and accomplish whatever it is the Lord desires to do through me. However, recently reading this passage I have come to the conclusion that is only part of it. Can it not also be true in association with non-action? It has dawned on me that HIS STRENGTH is what I also need -- and can rely upon -- when waiting patiently is what life's circumstances require. There are times when rather than doing something, I need HIS STRENGTH to simply wait and to stand firm where I am. When facing challenges that only God can work through in accordance with His wisdom and timetable, I need this same "can do" attitude that HIS STRENGTH will work in my life empowering me to exercise needed patience.
Without such a strong patience, we may find ourselves stepping out prematurely and presumptuously when God has something better in mind. Like Paul, may we learn contentment where we have no power to change the current situation. When circumstances are outside our control, let us rely on HIS STRENGTH to be patient and trust as we wait for what God will ultimately do.
Have a great day EXPERIENCING GOD EMPOWERED PATIENCE!
Carl
