Our Fashion Statement!

It is interesting how some things one person would not want to be "found dead in" can become a fashion for others; at least for a period of time. Though fashions change from one generation to another and sometimes come to cycle through again, there are fashions which seem to be beneath one's perceived status. For example, a gunnysack (or burlap bag) would probably be viewed not as stylish, but rather a sign of poverty if it had to be worn. Nevertheless, it has been noted that "gunny sack dresses" did become a fad in the early 1970's. It began when a woman in a dress shop in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, could not find anything she liked. Though what she ended up selecting startled the shop owner, it also gave her an idea. This customer bought the gunny sack that covered a mannequin during a time between dress seasons. The dress shop then began offering gunny sack dresses to other customers who were hard to please.

Gals, would you want a gunny sack dress for special occasions? Or would you not want to be "found dead in" such a garment? How about gunny sack pants or shirts for the guys? If not, then what would we want to be "found dead" wearing? Some have viewed a dressed up body in a casket by sadly stating, "All dressed up and no where to go." However, though the flesh is left behind, there is a destiny for the soul and therefore an adorning that is significant even at the point of death.

Paul urged those at Rome. . .
"But PUT ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires." ( Romans 13:14 ESV)

And to the church at Galatia, he reminded. . .
"For as many of you as were baptized into Christ HAVE PUT ON CHRIST." ( Galatians 3:27 ESV)

Then in Revelation we read. . .
"And I heard a voice from heaven saying, 'Write this: BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHO DIE IN THE LORD from now on.' 'Blessed indeed,' says the Spirit, 'that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!'" (Revelations 14:13 ESV)

Yes, it is IN CHRIST we would want to be "found dead", because IN HIM we have abundant life now ( John 10:10) and life eternal ( 1 John 5:11) to come. May the "fashion" in which we live our life reveal the eternity we have in view.

Have a great day ALL DRESSED IN CHRIST WITH LIFE TO BE LIVED AND HEAVEN TO GO!
Carl
