Honor And Tribute!
To honor is to bestow RESPECT and ADMIRATION. To offer tribute is to express GRATITUDE and PRAISE toward another and to ACKNOWLEDGE THE GOOD in their life. Days are set aside by governments and individuals to draw attention to causes, remembrances of historical events, and to honor individuals. Though times of expressing special honor and tribute are good, does that mean we should not be mindful of doing so between times?
As today is noted on the calendar as "Mother's Day", are mothers only given special consideration one day a year? Though it might be a time for purchasing and sending "Mother's Day" cards, isn't the real honor and tribute revealed through the manner in which they are acknowledged all year long? After all, though I am an adult with grown children of my own who now have their own families, my mother is still my mother and that is not only one day a year!
In Paul's letter to the church at Rome he stated. . .
"(7) Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS OWED." ( Romans 13:7 ESV)
Who receives honor from us? And how often and in what manner is it given? Do we honor others in a way that reveals our sense of indebtedness to them for the benefits they have brought to our life on various levels? The Lord should be number one in having such directed toward Him. We should above all live for Him to rejoice over our life as we seek to please Him. How about our parents as well?
Solomon exhorted. . .
"(25) Let your father and mother be glad; LET HER WHO BORE YOU REJOICE." ( Proverbs 23:25 ESV)
Jesus and also Paul repeated the command regarding the honoring of father and mother. ( Matthew 15:4; Ephesians 6:2-3) Are we doing so? As we seek to please God who is the Creator of all life, are we also seeking to honor the MOTHER who brought us into this world? May the respect, admiration, gratitude, praise, and acknowledgment of what is good give rise to treating others in an honorable manner as we go about daily living. Where would we be without God? Where would we be without our mothers? I pray like me you can see yours as a gift from God.
Have a great day BEING THANKFUL FOR THE SPECIAL PEOPLE GOD HAS PROVIDED IN YOUR LIFE!
