Crossing Over!
Bridges are connectors over water, canyons and gullies, or other expanses which separate one point from another. These structures are built to provide safe access between the sides. Without them, crossing a particular divide may not be possible. Even those who do not care for heights will often cross over anyway because it is the only means of gaining access to the other side unless perhaps a long alternate route is taken. When there is no alternate route the provided bridge must be utilized.
Bridge construction varies based on what it is that is being crossed over or what seems to work best in the area. Due to the many bodies of water here in Washington State, we have many bridges. There are several floating bridges built on pontoons and high suspension bridges supported by steel cables. We also have some draw bridges where road traffic is temporarily stopped to allow boats to go through. Then there are arch bridges, beam bridges, truss bridges, and more. Each type fulfills the specific need where they are built.
Of all the bridges we may encounter in life, the most significant ones would be those relative to eternal life. Where do we look for help in BRIDGING LIFE'S GAPS? What is the means of getting us from where we are (or have been) to where God wants us? The Great Architect of the creation in which we live has not left us without His design for gaining access to Himself and the blessings He desires to provide.
Jesus stated to Thomas in the company of the other disciples . . .
"(6) . . . 'I AM THE WAY, and the truth, and the life. NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME.' " ( John 14:6 ESV)
Jesus is THE WAY! Jesus is THE ACCESS through Whom we are enabled to come to the Father. There is no alternate route! Jesus emphatically declared there is no other way!
Earlier in this same Gospel, John recorded Jesus saying. . .
"(24) Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever HEARS MY WORD AND BELIEVES HIM WHO SENT ME has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but HAS PASSED FROM DEATH TO LIFE." ( John 5:24 ESV)
Note Jesus stated, "has passed from"! I have a Greek interlinear that translates the word "metabebeken" (from "metabaino") here as, "he has gone across." Having a relationship with Jesus now makes this a present blessing. As Jesus made clear in His story of the rich man and Lazarus, a time will come when that great divide cannot be crossed. ( Luke 16:26)
JESUS and our FAITH IN GOD! There is the means for BRIDGING THE GREAT EXPANSE between death and life. Jesus is the adequate means of our crossing over. It is through Him support for safe travel is found. May we accept the route our Heavenly Father has provided.
Have a great day TRUSTING GOD'S BRIDGING FROM HERE TO HIM!
Carl
