Coupled With Belief! (part 1 of 2)
When railcars are coupled together, they go where the powerful engine takes them. When it comes to all that God has done to make salvation possible, what He has provided is adequate. However, if it is not coupled with belief, what benefit can we expect to receive? It is belief that prompts us to act upon what God has revealed and to remain a faithful follower of His Will.
Isaiah wrote. . .
"WHO HAS BELIEVED WHAT HE HAS HEARD FROM US? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?" ( Isaiah 53:1 ESV)
From there Isaiah spoke of the coming Messiah. This passage was sited by John as he noted the lack of belief in spite of the signs Jesus had performed. ( John 12:38) Paul also sited this passage in his letter to the church at Rome.
We read. . .
"(16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, 'Lord, WHO HAS BELIEVED WHAT HE HAS HEARD FROM US?' (17) So FAITH COMES FROM HEARING, and hearing through THE WORD OF CHRIST." ( Romans 10:16-17 ESV)
The challenge of a lack of belief is an age old problem. It remains a challenge even today. Much of Israel did not enter the promised land due to "unbelief." ( Hebrews 3:19) The Hebrew writer urged those to whom he wrote not to make the same mistake and therefore fail to enter God's rest themselves. ( Hebrews 4:1 & 11) Those following Moses failed to couple (unite or combine) God's message with faith. ( Hebrews 4:2) It was THOSE WHO BELIEVED who were able to enter that rest ( Hebrews 4:3) and so it will also be for those who will enter God's eternal rest. Therefore, when the question is asked today, "Who has believed?", may it be clear by the actions of our life and the words of our mouth that we truly have. We will then be focused for God's power to take us home.
Have a great day BEING A BLESSED BELIEVER!
