Wall Torn Down!

Yesterday we considered the idea of building bridges rather than burning them. Bridges make it possible to cross that which would otherwise divide and separate. WALLS present another picture of division and separation. Just prior to the end of my younger brother's first tour of duty in Germany in 1989, the Berlin WALL between East and West was coming down. I have a small piece of that WALL taken from near the Brandenburg Gate. It is a significant piece of history; a wonderful reminder of the end of a separation and the beginning of unity.

However, there is a WALL of even greater significance and a unity Jesus' work has made possible. Paul referred to this WALL in his letter to the church in Ephesus.

"(14) For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and HAS BROKEN DOWN in his flesh the DIVIDING WALL of hostility (15) by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself ONE NEW MAN IN PLACE OF THE TWO, so making peace, (16) and might RECONCILE US BOTH TO GOD IN ONE BODY through the cross thereby killing the hostility." ( Ephesians 2:14-16 ESV)

The main distinction of mankind had been made between Jew and Gentile. Jesus, through His death on the cross, destroyed the WALL of separation to bring about unity in Himself. Salvation is through Him. Peace is experienced with Him. Unity is found in Him. May we focus on Christ and live for Him in such a way as to keep that WALL down.

Have a great day IN UNITED PEACE IN CHRIST!
Carl
