Beyond Skin Deep!

Sometimes we can appear just fine until some test reveals what is actually going on under our skin. MRI stands for "magnetic resonance imaging." An MRI is a scan that provides detailed images of the tissues of the body. CAT stands for "computerized axial tomography" and CAT scans use radiology to scan the body. PET stands for "positron emission tomography" and PET scans are used to look at the brain. These scans, X-rays and ultrasound imaging are all utilized to reveal what is below the surface to provide information relative to the health of the body. However, these tests do not detect abnormalities relative to the soundness of the soul.

In the words of the Lord to Judah given through the prophet Jeremiah we read. . .

"(9) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? (10) I THE LORD SEARCH THE HEART AND TEST THE MIND, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds." ( Jeremiah 17:9-10 ESV)

Oh what a desperate situation when there is SICKNESS OF THE HEART. This is true physically, but most seriously to our eternal destiny when it is one's SPIRITUAL CONDITION.

The New Living Translation reads. . .
"(9) The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? (10) But I know! I, THE LORD, SEARCH ALL HEARTS AND EXAMINE SECRET MOTIVES. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve." [NLT © 1997, Wheaton, Ill.: Tyndale House]

To undergo a GOD-scan, what would be revealed? Are there abnormalities that may require some radical surgery? Are there imbalances in the THINKING OF THE MIND that need correcting? Are the HEART'S AFFECTIONS properly focused on the righteousness of God? HE KNOWS! As we read His word we need to be open to the diagnoses that indicate what therapy we might be in need of for correcting the problems. May we remain open to the healing and transformation God can bring to our life so that our SPIRITUAL HEALTH will be what it ought to be.
