Gift Of Gab?
The story has been told how at a banquet honoring Thomas Edison, the man who introduced him listed his many inventions, dwelling at length on the talking machine. When the aged inventor rose to speak, he gently smiled and said, "I thank the gentleman for his kind remarks, but I must insist upon a correction. God invented the talking machine. I only invented the first one that can be shut off!"
Solomon wrote. . .
"(27) WHOEVER RESTRAINS HIS WORDS HAS KNOWLEDGE, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. (28) Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent." ( Proverbs 17:27-28 ESV)
How true it is some don't know when to cut off the flow. Some are known to possess as their gift, the "gift of gab." However, one with this gift may not necessarily be a conversationalist. Do we want to be listened to or do we merely want to get our statements told. Real communicating is when we have a message that is heard and understood. May we use wisdom in the use of conversation in our daily lives. Though the words may at times be few, making them worthwhile increases the chance of others being willing to listen. May God's wisdom be made evident through our conversations.
Have a great day USING GOD'S GIFT OF SPEECH IN BENEFICIAL WAYS!
