The Night Shift!

Though most people prefer working during the day and sleeping at night, there is comfort in knowing there are some who work the night shift. Law enforcement, emergency responders, medical staff at hospitals, and workers among other profession make it possible for others to sleep easier at night because important things are being covered and monitored.

When Israel was provided instructions for their continued observance of the Passover -- remembering their deliverance from Egyptian bondage and the passing over because of the blood of the lamb on their doorposts -- the statement was made. . .

"IT WAS A NIGHT OF WATCHING BY THE LORD, to bring them out of the land of Egypt; so this same night is a night of watching kept to the LORD by all the people of Israel throughout their generations." ( Exodus 12:42 ESV)

While the Egyptian households -- including Pharaoh's -- woke up in the night to find their dead ( Exodus 12:29-30), the nation of Israel was safely led by God in an exodus from Egypt. ( Exodus 12:31) "A NIGHT OF WATCHING BY THE LORD." God was on duty to provide the aid and deliverance He had promised.

In one of David's songs of ascents, he notes the following regarding God.
"(3) He will not let your foot be moved; HE who keeps you WILL NOT SLUMBER. (4) Behold, HE who keeps Israel WILL NEITHER SLUMBER NOR SLEEP." ( Psalm 121:3-4)

Our God is ALWAYS ON WATCH. Day and night He is at His work, fully aware of what is going on in our lives. When we lie down to sleep, why should both He and us stay awake? Knowing He continues on NIGHT WATCH provides the opportunity to get the rest the body, mind, and spirit need for each new day He graciously provides. May we find comfort in knowing our loving and merciful God is always on duty.

Have a great day BECAUSE GOD KEPT HIS WATCH THROUGH THE NIGHT!
