His Masterpiece!
What does it take to impress us? When we see the artistic, athletic, musical, poetic, etc., talent of others, are we impressed? What about God? Are we impressed with what He has made? Again and again in the first chapter of Genesis, all that God made was described as being "GOOD"! I like the statement that says, "God don't make junk!" Now, the English of that statement may not be good, but the SIGNIFICANCE of the thought certainly is! Do we see and appreciate the GOOD in what God has made? Then how do we view ourselves? Have we forgotten Who it is Who made us and for what GOOD purposes?
In his letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul stated. . .
"For WE ARE HIS WORKMANSHIP, CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS FOR GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." ( Ephesians 2:10 ESV)
The Greek word translated "workmanship" is "poiema" which means "that which is made" [source: W.E. Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words] Strong's Lexicon defines it as "that which has been made" or "a work". Being God's work is most definitely SIGNIFICANT. However, I find it interesting that the English word "poem" comes from the Greek "poiema". A poem expresses the thoughts of the poet. It is given flow and beauty that is enjoyed in it being recited. Its meaning can be very deep and its impact can leave one breathless and speechless. Poems and songs written for my wife during our dating years and even after marriage still capture her attention. When she hears me sing those songs, though we have been married over thirty-six years, her eyes still sparkle. Poems she wrote were the expression of her heart to me.
"Poiema!" "A work!" "A poem!" Heartfelt expression of the author! Think of our lives as being SIGNIFICANT in this way as God is our Maker; the Author and Originator of our life! God created us as one of His masterpieces; a work expressing His view of life, love, righteousness, and eternity. As we live, can others read from the meter and verse of which our life is composed the SIGNIFICANCE we have to God? Are we continually sensing it as well as we continue to surrender more to the purposes He has in mind for living out our life? We are SIGNIFICANT to Him! We are His work -- His masterpiece -- created for the purpose of fulfilling His Divine purposes. Though the world might be ready to auction us off cheap, God is not! May we never lose sight of our value to Him as we live in a manner that can help others see what they also mean to God.
Have a great day BEING A RECITATION OF THE HEART OF GOD!
Carl
