Longing!
When someone sets their heart on something, they will do almost anything to gain the possession. In the longing, opportunities are seized upon to gain what is so strongly desired. Whatever it takes, however long it takes, and no matter the cost, the pursuit continues.
Is our life marked by any such longing? Do we recognize our life as being the focus of such a longing?
Job asked. . .
"(17) What is man, that you make so much of him, and THAT YOU SET YOUR HEART ON HIM, (18) visit him every morning and test him every moment?" ( Job 7:17-18 ESV)
We find similar expressions in Psalm 8:4 and Hebrews 2:6. Job was unable to see the full picture of what God was doing in connection with his life, but he did know God was fully aware of him and all of mankind. Though Job struggled in maintaining a sense of hope, He knew GOD'S HEART was set on man.
Do we recognize how much GOD'S HEART is set on us? He has provided the means of complete salvation at the cost of His Son. He has preserved His Word in written form so we are able to study it every day to know what God expects of us and what we can expect of Him. And every day He allows to happen in this realm is another opportunity for mankind to respond to His love with a penitent heart. ( 2 Peter 3:8-9) Can we not see how much God has made of man in providing these and all His other blessings?
With all the opportunity and the means of salvation provided in Christ, mankind is without excuse for neglecting such a great salvation. ( Hebrews 2:3) May we help others recognize how much GOD'S HEART is set on them to also come into a right relationship with Him so that they too may receive the present and eternal blessings He longs to provide.
Have a great day ENCOURAGED BY HOW WIDE GOD'S HEART IS OPEN TOWARD US!
Carl
