Humble Like Timothy!

Paul and Timothy had a wonderful relationship. Timothy had provided much assistance and encouragement to Paul in their ministry of the Gospel together. Paul described his relationship with Timothy as being like "a son with a father" in the manner in which they had served together. ( Philippians 2:22) Paul had been a good mentor in discipling Timothy toward growing into a very effective evangelist. Though in prison, Paul knew he could have confidence in Timothy's continued work and connection with those among whom Paul had labored. Therefore he looked toward being cheered by news ( Philippians 2:19) through Timothy of how things were going with the brethren at Philippi.

Note how Paul described the humble characteristic of Timothy in contrast with others where he wrote. . .

"(20) For I have no one like him, who will be GENUINELY CONCERNED FOR YOUR WELFARE. (21) They all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ." ( Philippians 2:20-21 ESV)

The kind of concern held by Timothy for those at Philippi exemplified the kind of concern exhibited in Jesus Christ. As Jesus humbly "made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant" ( Philippians 2:7), Timothy focused selflessly on others as well. In fact, in focusing on others it was done with the soul saving INTERESTS OF JESUS CHRIST in mind.

Without the maintaining of a humble spirit, our own interests will continually get in the way. May we, like Timothy, seek to fulfill the INTERESTS OF JESUS CHRIST as we interact with others. It is the highest good to which we can give ourselves.

Have a great day MOTIVATED TO SERVE BY THE INTERESTS OF JESUS!
