All The Same To Him!

Recently ABC's "Nightline" reported on the five biggest lies stated during the politics of 2010, with one of them noted as the biggest lie of the year. A problem with lies spoken in public during campaigns or other political activities is there are always reporters with their ears open for every tidbit they think worthy of reporting. Even comments made based on bad information -- unintentional misstatements -- can come back to haunt for years because of the media capturing those statements on camera. Though some lies may slip by, most do not go unnoticed; at least by someone.

In Revelation we find the warning. . .
"(8) But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, AND ALL LIARS, THEIR PORTION WILL BE IN THE LAKE THAT BURNS WITH FIRE AND SULFUR, which is the second death." ( Revelation 21:8 ESV)

Just as God makes no distinction between lying and the other sins listed here, He also makes no distinction between big and little lies. Though society may talk about "little white lies" to distinguish them from "big" ones, lies are lies! Falsehood is falsehood! Untruth is untruth! And God is fully aware of every one spoken. According to this passage, God takes lying very seriously and therefore so should we. TRUTH MATTERS!

As Jesus walked on this earth, even then He warned. . .
"(36) I tell you, on the day of judgment people will GIVE ACCOUNT FOR EVERY CARELESS WORD they speak, (37) for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." ( Matthew 12:36-37 ESV)

What we say is on record! Others may be fooled, but not God. It has been quipped, "How can you tell if a politician is lying? His lips are moving." Though we should refrain from painting all politicians with the same proverbial brush, may TRUTH remain the expectation whenever our lips move.
