Preserve The Value!
Did you hear about the Olympian who won an Olympic Gold Medal and went home and had it bronzed? Now, we know that's ridiculous. That didn't happen, for who would do such a thing? We might bronze baby shoes to preserve them, but not an Olympic Gold Medal! Its value, as it is, is understood and the desire is to keep it as it is.
When something has value we generally try to keep it in such a way as to retain that value. We want others to see the value it has in itself and therefore treat it with the same value of which we want others to take note. This should also most certainly be our view of spiritual things. Do we treat spiritual things always in a way that can help others note their true value?
The Hebrew writer warned. . .
"(28) Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. (29) How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has PROFANED THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?" ( Hebrews 10:28-29 ESV)
The New Living Translation reads, ". . . those who have trampled on the Son of God and have TREATED THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT AS if it were COMMON AND UNHOLY." [vs. 29., NLT (1997), Tyndale House]
How do we view THE BLOOD OF JESUS that has sanctified, redeemed, cleansed, and saved us? To continue in purposeful sin reveals to the world we do not VALUE THE SACRIFICE made for our sins. Devaluing the blood in this way is associated with trampling the Son of God under our feet and even insulting or outraging the Spirit of God's gift of grace! Are we aiming for our lives to REFLECT THE VALUE AND HOLINESS OF THE BLOOD OF GOD'S COVENANT? Would we take that which is of greater value than gold and bronze it?
May THE BLOOD OF JESUS retain its rightful value in our lives that the world might see how glorious it is and the benefit they also may receive from it through being united with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. That blood has purchased the pardon all the gold in the world could never provide.
Have a great day revealing the MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD!
Carl
