Our Rescuer!
When a person is being rescued from stormy seas by those in a helicopter hovering above, that is where their focus generally rests. They often do not wish to look back down at the danger they are being lifted from, but rather to their rescuers to whom they will be TRULY INDEBTED AND THANKFUL. The same is true of one being hoisted up the side of cliff after having dangerously dangled over the edge with the threat of certain death hundreds of feet below. Having had such an experience some decide to never return to the sea or to climbing from rocky peaks. They have decided such presents too great a danger to chance falling into again. Still, how many spiritually are like the dog returning to its vomit or the sow returning to wallow in the mud after having been washed? (see 2 Peter 2:20-22)
In Paul's letter to the church at Colossae he exhorted. . .
"(1) If then you have been raised with Christ, SEEK THE THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, WHERE CHRIST IS, seated at the right hand of God. (2) SET YOUR MINDS ON THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, not on things that are on earth. (3) For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." ( Colossians 3:1-3)
Why is it that so many -- after having come to Christ and thus rescued from death in sin -- keep looking back to the world and the life once lived? If we would truly recognize what we have been rescued from, why would we feel any draw back toward it? Perhaps it is because we have not completely died to the old life. It keeps resurrecting its head, but must instead be kept buried so as to have no more power over us. As Christians, we have presently been raised with Christ from the life of sin that once enslaved us. Therefore, let us keep our focus on Christ, our Rescuer from the wrath of God. ( Romans 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 1:10)
We have been rescued from darkness to live in the light of the Lord. May we keep our focus on our Rescuer. Remaining ETERNALLY INDEBTED AND THANKFUL TO HIM should compel us to live daily in a manner pleasing to Him.
Have a great day PRAISING THE LORD FOR THE DELIVERANCE WE HAVE RECEIVED!
