"A Day Without . . . !"

Back in the mid 1970's, Anita Bryant -- who was then the spokesperson for Minute Maid ® Orange Juice -- would say, "A day without orange juice is like a day without sunshine!" Someone else has stated that "A day without orange juice is like a day without orange juice." Then there is the comedian Steve Martin who is quoted as saying, "A day without sunshine is like, you know, night." Perhaps Steve Martin's statement actually makes the most sense. The reality is that WITHOUT LIGHT WE ARE LEFT WITH DARKNESS!

Remember Jesus' declaration where we read. . .

"(12) Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. WHOEVER FOLLOWS ME will not walk in darkness, but WILL HAVE THE LIGHT OF LIFE.' " ( John 8:12 ESV)

With many who refuse to believe in JESUS, no wonder there is so much darkness in this world. When JESUS was being put to death on the cross, there were three hours of darkness. It was truly a dark moment in the history of mankind; putting the MESSIAH, the SON OF GOD, the REDEEMER of the world to death. ( Matthew 27:45) When they had come to arrest JESUS in the garden He had stated it was their "hour, and the power of darkness." ( Luke 22:53 ESV)

It is in THE LIGHT that we find the guidance and blessing of forgiveness we need, as John wrote. . .

"(5) this is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that GOD IS LIGHT, AND IN HIM IS NO DARKNESS AT ALL. (6) If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. (7) But if we WALK IN THE LIGHT, AS HE IS IN THE LIGHT, we have fellowship with one another, and THE BLOOD OF JESUS HIS SON CLEANSES US FROM ALL SIN." ( 1 John 1:5-7 ESV)

I love orange juice, but we could survive without it. However, it is the LIFE WITHOUT THE SON that is doomed to an eternity of darkness. It is where GOD and JESUS CHRIST are that there is no need for sun or lamp (note Revelation 21:23) because THEIR ESSENCE AND GUIDANCE ARE THAT OF LIGHT. It is the life without the LORD that remains in darkness greater than that of the night. May we continue to walk daily in THE LIGHT OF THE SON where we will find blessing for this life and for an eternity with Him.
