Remember The Forgetter!
We often forget to remember what should be kept in mind. There is a member of our congregation who has frequently expressed, "My forgettery works too well." We also find ourselves remembering what we should (or would like to) forget.
Perhaps part of the reason we forget things is we live busy lives and have so much to remember. That is why I love "sticky notes" on which to write reminders to be placed where I will see them when they need to be seen.
Reading through Isaiah yesterday I was struck by the following passage. God, speaking through Isaiah stated. . .
"(25) I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I WILL NOT REMEMBER YOUR SINS. (26) PUT ME IN REMEMBRANCE; let us argue together; set forth your case, that you may be proved right." ( Isaiah 43:25-26 ESV)
God does not need to be reminded of anything. He knows us full well. Our life is naked and exposed before Him. ( Hebrews 4:13) He knows our life from beginning to end. However, in His great mercy -- in our continued relationship with Him -- He has chosen to FORGET OUR SINS. In love God is willing to put them BEHIND HIS BACK. ( Isaiah 38:17) Unlike those who seem to find joy in holding past sins in front of other's faces, God is willing to FORGET OUR SINS. Therefore we should be encouraged to leave them in the past as well as we walk on freed from that weight of guilt removed from our life.
Let us remember what God is willing to do and accept the blessing He provides as we walk on with Him, seeking to please Him in all we do and say. May we never forget Him Who has been willing to REMOVE FROM REMEMBRANCE the sins we have committed. God blots them out! (note also Acts 3:19-20) The page becomes blank! Let us learn to leave them behind as well.
Have a great day PRAISING THE GREATEST FORGETTER!
