"Down-To-Earth!"
Getting "DOWN TO EARTH"! The expression relates to getting down to actions or ideas that are practical and realistic. They accomplish what they need to accomplish. The farmer does it literally by getting into the dirt to plant the seed that promises an eventual harvest. It is indicative of the person who can take lofty ideas and convey them in practical applications more easily understood. Sometimes the arrogant have to get off their "high horse" and humbly get "DOWN-TO-EARTH" by settling into serving rather than being served.
When it came to our sins and the salvation of our soul, God got "DOWN-TO-EARTH" to accomplish what was necessary. In referring to Jesus, Paul stated. . .
"(6) WHO, THOUGH HE WAS IN THE FORM OF GOD, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, (7) but MADE HIMSELF NOTHING, TAKING THE FORM OF A SERVANT, being born in THE LIKENESS OF MEN. And being found in human form, (8) he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, EVEN DEATH ON A CROSS." ( Philippians 2:6-8 ESV)
In giving Himself, Jesus accomplished what the law was powerless to do. ( Romans 8:3-4) Though He had no sin, He became sin for us ( 2 Corinthians 5:21) in order for us to become right with God. Praise God for His "DOWN-TO-EARTH" method of adequately dealing with sin and also providing an earthly example -- in the life of Christ -- of how we ought to live in this realm to please Him. Let us live "DOWN-TO-EARTH" lives now through service to His glory as we look UP-TO-HEAVEN for the greater glory to come.
Have a great day HUMBLY AND PRACTICALLY LIVING OUT OUR FAITH!
Carl
