Three Against One! (part 1 of 4)

"Three against one!" Do we like those odds? If the "three" are with us (rather than against us) it looks good. It is in our favor. Even if we consider this in light of negatives and positives, would not three positives do well in counteracting one negative? Where the focus of our life and where our trust rests can make a dynamic difference in how we go through life.

In Paul's second letter to Timothy he encouraged. . .
"(5) I am reminded of YOUR SINCERE FAITH, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. (6) For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, (7) for GOD GAVE US A SPIRIT NOT OF FEAR but of power and love and self-control." ( 2 Timothy 1:5-7 ESV)

Regardless of the giftedness and knowledge we have, FEAR CAN CRIPPLE the ability to act. In spite of strength, some have been PARALYZED BY FEAR. Others have hidden themselves because of FEAR. The FEAR is not from God, but from the flesh. It comes from focusing on our own strength and wisdom rather than that which is available beyond ourselves. Instead of being based on the eye of faith, it is the result of the focus of the eye of the flesh. We are to remember the resources we have from God that enable us to press on in what He has called us to do, in spite of the challenging forces against us. Remember how John noted that "he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world." ( 1 John 4:4 ESV) This is because we are from God, rather than of the world.

Are we allowing FEAR to have control or are we allowing the spirit God provides to compel our life toward God glorifying action? Lord willing, over the next three days, let us consider the three positives Paul mentioned here that can COUNTERACT THE FEAR with which we may struggle. Let us be encouraged as we recognize the resource God has provided.
