Becoming!
Being all that we can be takes focus. We need to recognize what it is we are to be. It also takes diligence. "Becoming" is not an instant occurrence, but rather a process. To become all that we are meant to be also requires openness to the assistance we need beyond ourselves.
What God had in mind for us is evident in the story of Creation. He created man to possess His likeness; being created in HIS IMAGE. ( Genesis 1:26-27) That is not physical characteristics, but rather HIS DIVINE ESSENCE. As long as we merely view ourselves as physical beings our "becoming" is going to fall far short of God's intent! Through Christ our life is put back on track to be renewed after that likeness. ( Romans 8:29; 1 Corinthians 15:49; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Colossians 3:10; 1 John 3:2) It is the disciplined life that remains open to the direction the Lord provides and the transformation He makes possible.
When the Hebrew writer contrasted human discipline and the purpose of God's, he stated. . .
"(10) For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, THAT WE MAY SHARE HIS HOLINESS." ( Hebrews 12:10 ESV)
Hopefully we recognize and appreciate the benefit of the guiding discipline we have received from our parents. However, God's purpose takes us beyond merely being better members of society to that of SHARING HIS HOLINESS!
As Peter encouraged that God's "divine power" ( 2 Peter 1:3) has provided all that is necessary . . .
"(4) by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them YOU MAY BECOME PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire." ( 2 Peter 1:4 ESV)
Created to possess HIS IMAGE! Disciplined to share HIS HOLINESS! By His power, escaping the world's corruption and becoming partakers of the DIVINE NATURE! This is the ultimate God has in mind for us. What a glorious goal He desires to draw us toward.
If we are not focused toward and open to God's working in our life we will be hindered from "becoming" all that He destined us to be. As we remain in the process of "becoming", HIS DIVINE ESSENCE will become more and more visible in our life until we are with Him and He brings it all to completion. May we remain receptive to God's "divine power" working in and through our life!
Have a great day CONTINUING TO BE A MARVELOUS WORK IN HIS HANDS!
