An Inheritance!
Often as we think of an inheritance we probably think of the things we might gain upon the death of another to whom we are related. Being listed as an heir in a will we might anticipate inheriting a house, land, money, heirlooms, or other property and items of sentimental value. However, have we considered the idea of BEING an inheritance?
As the Hebrew writer began to make clear the superiority of the Son of God, we read. . .
"(1) Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, (2) but in these last days he has spoken to us by HIS SON, WHOM HE APPOINTED THE HEIR OF ALL THINGS, through whom also he created the world." ( Hebrews 1:1-2 ESV)
Does it not stand to reason that Jesus would be HEIR OF ALL THINGS since it was through Him that this world was created? When John introduced the Messiah in his gospel he noted that "ALL THINGS WERE MADE THROUGH HIM, and without him was not any thing made that was made." ( John 1:3 ESV) Paul also noted that "ALL THINGS WERE CREATED THROUGH HIM AND FOR HIM." ( Colossians 1:16 ESV)
So, what was created? Are we not a part of His creation? Would this not rightfully include you and I? Though many may be separating themselves from the Lord by living life according to their own desires, are we living with a sense of BELONGING TO HIM as a part of HIS INHERITANCE? As Christians we should be rightfully encouraged with regard to an eternal inheritance ( 1 Peter 1:4) that is ours in Christ, but we must also never forget TO WHOM WE BELONG and the impact that ought to have on our manner of living. By the right of Jesus having created us and also having redeemed us, let us live as those who BELONG TO HIM now and as His eternal inheritance!
Have a great day LIVING FOR THE RIGHTFUL HEIR!
