What We Believe!
Believing is a powerful thing. It can empower us to live even in the face of great challenges. However, seeing is not necessarily believing, but believing can be seeing. (note Hebrews 11:1) Some see and refuse to believe. There are also those who believe the wrong things. Therefore "What We Believe" is important to consider.
It has been noted that a problem with half-truths is the wrong half might be believed. That is why it is important to be truthful. That which is truthful is FULL of the TRUTH. Is that the picture of our life? Is that the character of our conversation? When it comes to "What We Believe", consider that right in the middle of that word is the word "lie". Look at it again: "beLIEve"! Unfortunately many people have believed a lie and in the process have rejected the truth.
As Paul wrote to the church at Thessalonica, he wanted to ward off their being deceived. Some had apparently told them the day of the Lord had already come. ( 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3) This caused them to wonder about their hope in Christ. Paul also referred to those who "refused to LOVE THE TRUTH and so be saved." ( 2 Thessalonians 2:10) He then went on to state. . .
"(11) Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so THAT THEY MAY BELIEVE WHAT IS FALSE, (12) in order that all may be condemned WHO DID NOT BELIEVE THE TRUTH BUT HAD PLEASURE IN UNRIGHTEOUSNESS." ( 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 ESV)
The New King James Versions reads, "that they should believe the lie". BeLIEve the LIE! Notice that "I" is right in the middle there also. When the focus is more on what pleases self than on God, we are always in trouble.
When people are bent on rejecting God's Way, there comes a point when He just gives them over to it. (note Romans 1:24 , 26, & 28) What an awful place for a life to reach. It is therefore important for us to develop a LOVE FOR THE TRUTH so that we are not easily deceived and drawn away from it.
Let us continually seek and speak the truth. "What We Believe" is important, and as Christians it is important for what we say to be believable as well. In the midst of a world of half-truths and outright deception, may we draw attention to THE TRUTH to be loved that leads to salvation.
Have a great day SEEKING AND SPEAKING THE TRUTH!
Carl
