The Right Wing!
People talk about "right wing" and "left wing" ideologies and politics to designate where they and others may stand. Now, being under the "right wing" (i.e. correct wing) is important to consider. When it comes to living, some people seem to "wing it." That is, they really have no plan, they just deal with life's choices and situations as they come up. However, without a plan or seeking proper direction no assurance is provided with regard to ultimately arriving at the right destination. When it comes to our life, leaving the directing and nurturing -- especially that of a spiritual kind -- to chance is not wise.
Perhaps we have been blessed by having the right person come along in our life to take us UNDER THEIR WING. However, sitting back just hoping for someone to come along to do that can be a risky gamble. We need to take some responsibility in seeking out the right kind of guidance. Dave Thomas (the founder of Wendy's restaurants) made the statement, "Instead of waiting for someone to take you under his or her wing, go out and find a good wing to climb under."
A "good" wing. The "right" wing. This is what the psalmist David sought out. From one of his psalms we read. . .
"(8) Keep me as the apple of your eye; HIDE ME IN THE SHADOW OF YOUR WINGS, (9) from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me." ( Psalm 17:8-9 ESV)
He also wrote. . .
"(7) How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take REFUGE IN THE SHADOW OF YOUR WINGS." ( Psalm 36:7 ESV)
Other similar expressions are found in Psalm 61:4, 63:7, and 91:4. David recognized being UNDER THE WING OF GOD was where blessing and security were found.
Jesus expressed the desire for such gathering as He looked over Jerusalem and lamented. . .
"(37) O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! HOW OFTEN WOULD I HAVE GATHERED YOUR CHILDREN TOGETHER AS A HEN GATHERS HER BROOD UNDER HER WINGS, and you would not!" ( Matthew 23:37 ESV)
What a tender desire contrasted with an awful refusal. The Divine desire was there, but it was met with a refusal to come UNDER THE WING that would have brought blessing and peace in the beloved relationship. Many who thought they were living UNDER THE WING OF GOD were actually living under their own misconceptions and a legalistic righteousness. True righteousness is found in Christ. ( Romans 3:21-22; Philippians 3:9) May we seek to live life UNDER THE WING OF GOD now so that we can also be a part of the gathering into eternal glory.
Have a great day APPRECIATING THE GUIDANCE AND SHELTERING GOD PROVIDES!
