Water Of Life!

Have you ever seen someone with a glass of some unusual mixture that looked interesting, but you were not sure if it was actually palatable and asked, "Are you going to drink that?" Perhaps we are amazed and even appalled at what some might drink. Some are willing to do it as a dare. Others may do it to gross us out. However, there is a sense in life when some are led to drink that which they are told is good, but which really does not bring the benefit they were seeking.

There are people in this world who are thirsty and think they have found water, but their thirst is not quenched. They have found cisterns from which to drink, but what those cisterns contain is not satisfying.

Consider the words of God that came through His prophet Jeremiah.
"(12) BE APPALLED, O heavens, at this; BE SHOCKED, be utterly desolate, declares the LORD, (13) for my people have committed two evils: THEY HAVE FORSAKEN ME, THE FOUNTAIN OF LIVING WATERS, AND HEWED OUT CISTERNS FOR THEMSELVES, BROKEN CISTERNS THAT CAN HOLD NO WATER." ( Jeremiah 2:12-13 ESV)

The story is told of a preacher who was speaking on the subject, "Jesus, The Water Of Life." As he was speaking, a Moslem interrupted him and said, "Your religion is like this little stream of water, but Islam is like a great ocean!" "Yes," replied the preacher, "but there is this difference: when men drink ocean water they die! But when they drink the water of life which Christ gives, they live forever!"

Remember Jesus' offer to the Samaritan woman He met at the well of Jacob.
"(13) Jesus said to her, 'Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, (14) but whoever drinks of the WATER THAT I WILL GIVE him will NEVER BE THIRSTY AGAIN. The WATER THAT I WILL GIVE him will become in him A SPRING OF WATER WELLING UP TO ETERNAL LIFE.'" ( John 4:13-14 ESV)

That water she wanted. The other water was no longer important to her, which was made clear by her leaving her water jar behind. ( John 4:28) She went back into the town of Sychar and brought the people out to meet Jesus.

Jesus Himself noted the sad reality the many will choose the way that leads to destruction, but only the few choose to enter the narrow way that leads to life. ( Matthew 7:13-14) The masses may drink from the "wells" of the world and other religions, but it is those who come to JESUS who find TRUE REFRESHMENT from the spring that WELLS UP TO ETERNAL LIFE. May we continue to DRINK FROM HIS WELL as we also direct others to Him.

Have a great day LEAVING THE WORLD'S CONCOCTIONS BEHIND IN FAVOR OF THE LIVING WATER OF JESUS!
