No Gamble!
There was a song recorded by a singer named Kenny Rogers quite a few years ago titled, "The Gambler". The chorus began. . .
"You gotta know when to HOLD 'EM,
Know when to FOLD 'EM,
Know when to WALK AWAY,
Know when to RUN..."
From playing poker "The Gambler" had learned this to be a wise philosophy for life. Is there some truth in those words? Consider what Paul wrote to the young evangelist, Timothy where we read. . .
"(11) But as for you, O man of God, FLEE these things. [the things mentioned in verses 3-10] PURSUE righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. (12) FIGHT the good fight of the faith. TAKE HOLD of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses." ( 1 Timothy 6:11-12 ESV)
As Christians, maybe the song we ought to sing is. . .
"You gotta know what to FLEE FROM,
Know what to PURSUE,
Know what to STAND AND FIGHT FOR,
Know what to HOLD.
You never count your good deeds
While you live your life of service,
There'll be time enough for countin'
When your life here's done."
Well, it might not become one of the top ten recorded hits, but as far as a philosophy for Christian living it's tops! Put it into practice! It will be no gamble! You will be blessed!
HAVE A GREAT DAY LIVING IN TUNE WITH GOD'S WILL!
