Helped Up!
We all have our challenges. I am vertically challenged. For those who may not be familiar with that expression, it means I am short (5 foot 4 inches tall). If I get in a crowd it is sometimes hard to see. When sitting in a theater I always hope no one tall sits in front of me. When going to a parade, we try to get there early to get a good spot where no one will be in front of us.
Perhaps my being short feeds my desire to be where I can gain a good view. As I walk around town I love to look toward the mountains. I frequently look up at a peak called Mt. Townsend and desire to be there. I have made the hike more than once and have enjoyed taking pictures of the view from there. It is a height from which a great perspective of our region can be gained. I only gain that view by being HIGHER THAN I.
Another reason to reach for the heights is when there is the need for safety. If I was in a flood region, I would also want to be someplace HIGHER THAN I. But sometimes gaining a height of safety is beyond our own reach and therefore we need help to be lifted up.
David wrote. . .
"(1) Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; (2) from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. LEAD ME TO THE ROCK THAT IS HIGHER THAN I, (3) for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy." ( Psalm 61:1-3 ESV)
Though David was a mighty man and great military leader, he still continually LOOKED TO GOD FOR STRENGTH AND SECURITY. There were situations in his life that were overwhelming and he knew without God's help he was not safe. He needed a help HIGHER THAN HIS OWN ability could provide. Though rocks can be climbed, there are some rocks where help from above is needed. David knew God was the One Who could place him where he could truly be secure.
There are heights to which we cannot reach by ourselves. Are we looking to God for reaching our place of SAFETY AND SECURITY in life? Is His higher perspective of life what we daily seek? May we continually allow God to lift us to where we cannot get by ourselves. It is when our life is UPLIFTED BY HIM that we can rise above the challenges of this life as we look toward the secure eternal hope He provides.
Have a great day EXPERIENCING SECURITY WITH GOD!
Carl
