Compelled From Within!
When a tea kettle is placed on a burner or over a fire, it is because of what is going on inside that makes it sing. The water bubbling within creates the steam that causes the kettle to whistle, alerting those waiting to enjoy some tea that the water is ready.
Consider what greatly influences our life actions. People are compelled to act because of varying influences; those from without (public pressure, bribery, praise, etc.) and those from within (selfishness, genuinely caring, etc.). However, outward influences can vary from place to place and thus create great variation and inconsistency in responses, while inward influences are based on the character of the life. When that character is good, regardless of what is happening around us, we can still act in a proper manner because of what is going on within.
About three years ago I noted a specific Greek word in Romans 12:11. [05/31/2007 "teEn-MAIL focus] There Paul wrote. . .
"Do not be slothful in zeal, BE FERVENT IN SPIRIT, Serve the Lord." ( Romans 12:11 ESV)
The Greek word translated "fervent" is "zeontes" which is from "zeo" and literally refers to the idea of "BOILING." Our English defines "FERVENT" as showing passionate enthusiasm or being glowing hot. Though FERVENCY can be seen in outward actions, it is the SPIRIT OF FERVENCY within that keeps the consistency in serving the Lord. Are we hot, cold, or guilty of being unpalatably lukewarm? (note Revelation 3:15-16) When we are truly BOILING HOT for the things of God we cannot help but sing His praises regardless of what is going on around us. Just like a tea kettle singing because of what is going on inside it, the same can be true of our life. Are those around us hearing us? May we remain open to God's stirring within our life so that we can remain on the "BOIL" for His Heavenly purposes.
Have a great day REMAINING HOT FOR THE THINGS OF GOD!
Carl
