Relying On What Lasts!

What have we found to be most dependable in life? Our feelings? How consistent are they for always prompting the right actions or responses? What about news we receive by means of various media? Is that not many times a bit slanted to make a journalistic point rather than the mere reporting of facts? What about our peers? Do they influence us toward what is right or merely toward what may be popular for the moment? Do we turn to the world's experts or self-help books to get ourselves back on track? What have we found that offers greater stability for life choices than any of these?

Note the following short poem:

GOD'S ETERNAL WORD!

For feelings come and feelings go,
And feelings are deceiving;
My warrant is the Word of God
Naught else is worth believing.

I'll trust in God's unchanging Word
Till soul and body sever;
For, though all things shall pass away,
His Word shall stand forever.

Peter stated. . .
"(22) Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, (23) since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; (24) for 'All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, (25) BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD REMAINS FOREVER.' And this word is THE GOOD NEWS THAT WAS PREACHED TO YOU." ( 1 Peter 1:22-25 ESV)

As Peter noted the life we can gain through the power of GOD'S ABIDING WORD, he quoted from Isaiah 40:6 & 8. We have GOD'S DEPENDABLE AND STABLE WORD on which to rely rather than the changeable feelings we experience or the constantly shifting values of our world. This should be a comfort to us, knowing from one moment and year to the next, God's expectations will remain the same.

Some things were not meant to last forever. However, GOD'S WORD is and He has provided the means in Christ for our eternal existence as well. With our faith resting in the promises and Word of God we can live encouraged that our passing away in this realm will be our passing over into the eternal one.

Have a great day BASING OUR LIVES ON GOD'S GOOD NEWS!
Carl
