Relief!

The antacid "Rolaids" ® used to have a long running advertisement which posed the question, "How do you spell relief?" The response was "R-O-L-A-I-D-S". That spelling is etched deep in my mind because of how often the commercial was aired. However, even today a problem I have with some of the antacid commercials is that they make it appear one can keep on overeating or eating as much spicy food as they want, and then just take an antacid (or take one prior to eating) to counteract the heartburn and acidy stomach. One commercial actually shows an individual feeling the effects of what he was eating at a smorgasbord restaurant, taking his antacid, and then ends with a scene of him back eating more. None of the commercials seem to encourage a lifestyle change to deal with the needed relief.

A reality for many is that more than just food should give them indigestion. There are many lifestyle choices that run counter to the will of God. There are hearts that should burn to direct toward the need of change. Rather than simply counteracting symptoms, there is the need for accepting the REAL CURE; JESUS CHRIST and the truth associated with Him.

To use the spelling of "R-O-L-A-I-D-S", the real relief in CHRIST is...

R - redemption and forgiveness of sins. ( Colossians 1:14)
O - obtained access into grace in Him. ( Romans 5:2)
L - life eternal. ( John 6:47; 1 John 5:12)
A - abundant life. ( John 10:10)
I - intercession on our behalf. ( Hebrews 7:25)
D - deliverance from the wrath of God. ( 1 Thessalonians 1:10; Romans 5:9)
S - salvation to the uttermost. ( Hebrews 7:25)

Oh, yes, what a relief! However, that really suggests the way to spell spiritual and eternal relief is J-E-S-U-S-C-H-R-I-S-T. That may not have the same ring to it as spelling Rolaids ®, but it does spell relief in a much more significant and eternal way. Praise God for such a cure as is found in JESUS OUR LORD and the life change that results in a right relationship with Him.
