Fire Insurance?

Fire insurance is purchased to provide a means of replacing structures and possessions in case of fire. However, fire insurance does not prevent fires. Neither does it replace the loss of life. For the most part fire insurance is something for which people pay with the hope they never have to use it.

Some have viewed religion as "fire insurance" in the sense of it preventing them from going to hell. However, our relationship with Christ is MUCH MORE than eternal "fire insurance". It is more than being free from the fear of going to hell, being assured of our salvation in Christ. To be a disciple of Jesus, even to lose our life is to have it saved. ( Luke 9:24)

Consider again a passage we noted earlier this month (06/06/2010) along with a couple verses leading up to it. In Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth he stated. . .
"(7) But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. (8) None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (9) But, as it is written, 'WHAT NO EYE HAS SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD, NOR THE HEART OF MAN IMAGINED, WHAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.'" ( 1 Corinthians 2:7-9 ESV)

The quote Paul ended with is from Isaiah 64:4. The context appears to be that in anticipation of the coming Messiah there was much that was not understood and much that was misunderstood. That is why even those longing for that coming rejected Christ and handed Him over to be crucified. Had they understood, "they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." The problem was the Lord's coming and all that was associated with Him and His teaching was not what they had imagined.

The same is true regarding Jesus' second coming and our eternity with Him. There is much we do not fully understand, though we can still live in joyful anticipation of that time. And there is much about Heaven and our eternity with God we are not fully able to imagine either. God has PREPARED FOR US MUCH MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE. I believe whatever it will be like will be so glorious, our human finite minds presently could not comprehend it. May we therefore press on in abundant joy as we acknowledge that God, in Christ, has provided more than just the means of saving us from hell, but also in bringing us into His eternal glorious presence with our Lord Jesus Christ. May that realization keep the fire of our faith burning as we press on in anticipation of the day!

Have a great day APPRECIATING FULL COVERAGE IN CHRIST!
Carl
