Beyond Where We Started!
As Paul addressed the reality of the resurrection of the dead based on the truth of the resurrection of Jesus ( 1 Corinthians 15), twice he drew a contrast between Adam and Christ. The first contrast is that of death coming into the world through Adam while being "made alive" is in our connection with Christ. (vss.20-22) Death is a reality of life in this realm. However, death is not the end. In Christ we have hope beyond death and the resurrection of Jesus was the firstfruits of those who belong to Him. (vs.23)
The second contrast Paul presented is where we read. . .
"(45) Thus it is written, 'THE FIRST man Adam became A LIVING BEING'; THE LAST Adam became A LIFE-GIVING SPIRIT. (46) But it is not the spiritual that is first but THE NATURAL, and THEN THE SPIRITUAL." ( 1 Corinthians 15:45-46 ESV)
When I was born, I came into this realm as a "natural" fleshly being. I was selfish: feed me, change me, hold me, etc. As I grew I became more aware of a bigger sphere than just myself. Then I became aware of being accountable for my choices. This was also the realization of there being more to my existence than just physical life. Created in the image of God ( Genesis 1:26-27) there was a SPIRITUAL aspect to my existence to be acknowledged. I needed to be born again. ( John 3:3-5) I needed to die to self, be buried in Christ, and united with Him, rising to walk a new life in Him. ( Romans 6:3-5) Being united with Christ in this way brings assurance of being "UNITED WITH HIM IN A RESURRECTION LIKE HIS." ( Romans 6:5) That will then be with a transition from this fleshly body to one that is imperishable, glorious, powerful, and completely spiritual. ( 1 Corinthians 15:42-45)
May we not stop short by focusing too much on the physical; gratifying its desires. Instead, let us allow our spirit to continue to be nourished to become more and more the SPIRITUAL BEINGS God created us to be. Praise God in Christ such a transformation of our life is made possible as in Him we become "A NEW CREATION." ( 2 Corinthians 5:17)
Have a great day PRESSING ON WITH THE LIFE-GIVER TOWARD THE ETERNAL LIFE WITH HIM!
