The IN Crowd! (part 7 of 10)
How people BEHAVE often depends on those with whom they are around. Certain crowds BEHAVE in certain ways. There is even a strong power created within a crowd that can cause people to do things they would not do under ordinary circumstances. This being true should cause us to be careful what crowd we are in.
Peter exhorted. . .
"(15) but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, (16) having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your GOOD BEHAVIOR IN CHRIST may be put to shame." (1 Peter 3:15-16 ESV)
IN CHRIST is the promotion of GOOD BEHAVIOR. And even many who don't want to outwardly acknowledge that which is truly right, have difficulty denying it deep down within. May we continue to be empowered toward GOOD BEHAVIOR as servants of Christ. Our world is so much in need of seeing that which is truly GOOD!
Have a great day MARKED BY CHRIST-LIKE BEHAVIOR!

The IN Crowd! (part 6 of 10)
Some people would like to put us on parade. Sometimes this is done to honor while other times it takes place to ridicule. Crowds can be so fickle. They can praise you one minute and set out to destroy you the next. (note an example in Acts 14:11-13 & 19)
Our Lord has a procession in which He desires us to be a part.
"(14) But thanks be to God, who IN CHRIST ALWAYS LEADS US IN TRIUMPHAL PROCESSION, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere." (2 Corinthians 2:14 ESV)
It is Jesus Who brings the VICTORY to our life. He is the great Conqueror! And it is He Who shall someday present us with the VICTOR'S CROWN!

The IN Crowd! (part 5 of 10)
Who are we numbered among? Are we willing to STAND up and be counted? Or would we prefer to be hidden within the crowd in which we have chosen to associate?
We need to find a good place to STAND. We need to have a safe place to STAND. And we need to STAND for something or we are liable to fall for anything.
Paul stated where we ought to STAND FIRM!
"(1) Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, STAND FIRM THUS IN THE LORD, my beloved." (Philippians 4:1 ESV)
Paul had stressed the idea of where our citizenship ought to be and the mindset we need in approaching life as we await the return of our Lord. It is IN HIM where we must continue to FIRMLY STAND. Are we numbered with Him? May we not allow anything or anyone to move us from that place!
Have a great day STANDING FIRM IN CHRIST!

The IN Crowd! (part 4 of 10)
Some people find themselves hanging with the wrong crowd and in the process find themselves GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION! We know that with which we struggle. We know full well the sins for which we have need of forgiveness. And if we are honest we know we stand before God as GUILTY and without excuse. Praise God He has provided the means of a place wherein we can receive hope!
Paul encouraged. . .
"(1) There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION for those who are IN CHRIST JESUS. (2) For the law of the Spirit of life has SET YOU FREE IN CHRIST JESUS from the law of sin and death." (Romans 8:1-2 ESV)
Though guilty of sin, IN CHRIST we have the condemnation removed. It is an assurance we can count on even now as we live IN CHRIST. What peace this ought to bring! What confidence it ought to inspire in approaching God! What love and praise ought to flow from our life because of such a provision!

The IN Crowd! (part 3 of 10)
Where we CHOOSE TO LIVE says something about our tastes and lifestyle.
Paul exhorted. . .
"(6) Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so WALK IN HIM, (7) ROOTED AND BUILT UP IN HIM and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." (Colossians 2:6-7 ESV)
Walking and living IN HIM is found the best climate for life. In Him we will find the shelter from every storm. In Him we will find the nourishment our soul needs. In Him we will find we are dwelling in the lap of luxury beyond anything the world has to offer.
Have we chosen to LIVE AND WALK IN HIM? Is this where our life is rooted and being built up? May it continue to be so!
Have a great day LIVING AND WALKING WITH CHRIST!

The IN Crowd! (part 2 of 10)
Is the crowd in which we desire to be a part productive? Is this "in crowd" merely a place to hang or a place for growth and accomplishment?
Jesus exhorted regarding the place to be!
"(4) ABIDE IN ME, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, UNLESS IT ABIDES IN the vine, neither can you, unless you ABIDE IN ME. (5) I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever ABIDES IN ME and I in him, he it is that BEARS MUCH FRUIT, for apart from me you can do nothing. (6) If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned." (John 15:4-6 ESV)
IN HIM is the place for FRUITFUL LIVING. However, we must realize that is the place where we must remain in order for this to take place. It's not to be a sporadic relationship. Jesus wants us to understand He desires to have a continual connection with us. He wants to cause much fruit to be produced in our life. For this to happen we MUST ABIDE (or REMAIN) IN HIM.
IN HIM is the place to be. Let it continue to be so!
Have a great day BEING FRUITFUL IN CHRIST!

The IN Crowd! (part 1 of 10)
It seems we all have a desire to fit in. We don't want to be viewed as out of place or weird. To be a part of the "IN CROWD" has to do with image. Are we concerned with how others perceive us? Are our tastes in clothing and lifestyle dictated by what reflects being numbered among the "IN CROWD"?
Being a part of the "IN CROWD" is fine, but only as long as that CROWD IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE. The "IN CROWD" to be a part of is those who are IN CHRIST! Over the next few days meditate with me on this significance.
Some people are looking to find or create a new look. They may make changes and ask, "What do you think of the new me?" IN CHRIST the "new me" becomes a reality.
Paul stated. . .
"(17) Therefore, if anyone is IN CHRIST, he is A NEW CREATION. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)
IN CHRIST there is a renewal that takes place within and brings changes without. IN CHRIST the NEW YOU is inside and out. It is to be a complete change; a transformation that carries on through life and is ultimately completed in eternity. (note Colossians 1:28)
Have a great day PRAISING GOD FOR THE NEW YOU!

Shared Likenesses!
We may share clear resemblances of both our parents. It is possible to share the likeness of other relations as well. Sometimes people look at us and can easily tell with whom we are related. The same is so in a spiritual sense.
Continuing in considering the contrast between Adam and Christ we began yesterday, Paul noted what we share from both where we read. . .
"(47) The FIRST MAN was FROM THE EARTH, a man of dust; the SECOND MAN IS FROM HEAVEN. (48) As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. (49) Just as we have BORNE THE IMAGE OF THE MAN OF DUST, we SHALL ALSO BEAR THE IMAGE OF THE MAN OF HEAVEN." (1 Corinthians 15:47-49 ESV)
There is the physical image of humanity we all share. That began with Adam. God formed him out of the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7) and that body of dust shall return to it. (Ecclesiastes 12:7) However, there was another essence instilled within mankind and that was the LIKENESS OF GOD. (Genesis 1:26-27) Sin has corrupted and tarnished that image. However, in Christ we have the blessing of THAT IMAGE BEING RENEWED.
Recognizing we bear the image of both, do we sometimes experience the struggle between the two? We need to continue looking to God for His guidance and power to be working in our life.
Peter encouraged. . .
"(3) HIS DIVINE POWER HAS GRANTED TO US ALL THINGS THAT PERTAIN TO LIFE AND GODLINESS, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, (4) by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may BECOME PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire." (2 Peter 1:3-4 ESV)
We are more than just dust to be blown or swept away. However, living life disconnected from the Will of God we might as well be dust to be kicked up underfoot. Are we living in a manner that more than our physical image can be seen? Someday that will become dust. Our family tree actually goes back to God, not merely to fleshly man. May we remember our true roots as we continue to be renewed in the image of our Creator. (Colossians 3:10) It is THAT IMAGE that relates to our eternity with Him.
Have a great day ALLOWING GOD'S SIDE OF THE FAMILY TO SHOW!

Beyond Where We Started!
As Paul addressed the reality of the resurrection of the dead based on the truth of the resurrection of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15), twice he drew a contrast between Adam and Christ. The first contrast is that of death coming into the world through Adam while being "made alive" is in our connection with Christ. (vss.20-22) Death is a reality of life in this realm. However, death is not the end. In Christ we have hope beyond death and the resurrection of Jesus was the firstfruits of those who belong to Him. (vs.23)
The second contrast Paul presented is where we read. . .
"(45) Thus it is written, 'THE FIRST man Adam became A LIVING BEING'; THE LAST Adam became A LIFE-GIVING SPIRIT. (46) But it is not the spiritual that is first but THE NATURAL, and THEN THE SPIRITUAL." (1 Corinthians 15:45-46 ESV)
When I was born, I came into this realm as a "natural" fleshly being. I was selfish: feed me, change me, hold me, etc. As I grew I became more aware of a bigger sphere than just myself. Then I became aware of being accountable for my choices. This was also the realization of there being more to my existence than just physical life. Created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) there was a SPIRITUAL aspect to my existence to be acknowledged. I needed to be born again. (John 3:3-5) I needed to die to self, be buried in Christ, and united with Him, rising to walk a new life in Him. (Romans 6:3-5) Being united with Christ in this way brings assurance of being "UNITED WITH HIM IN A RESURRECTION LIKE HIS." (Romans 6:5) That will then be with a transition from this fleshly body to one that is imperishable, glorious, powerful, and completely spiritual. (1 Corinthians 15:42-45)
May we not stop short by focusing too much on the physical; gratifying its desires. Instead, let us allow our spirit to continue to be nourished to become more and more the SPIRITUAL BEINGS God created us to be. Praise God in Christ such a transformation of our life is made possible as in Him we become "A NEW CREATION." (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Relief!
The antacid "Rolaids" ® used to have a long running advertisement which posed the question, "How do you spell relief?" The response was "R-O-L-A-I-D-S". That spelling is etched deep in my mind because of how often the commercial was aired. However, even today a problem I have with some of the antacid commercials is that they make it appear one can keep on overeating or eating as much spicy food as they want, and then just take an antacid (or take one prior to eating) to counteract the heartburn and acidy stomach. One commercial actually shows an individual feeling the effects of what he was eating at a smorgasbord restaurant, taking his antacid, and then ends with a scene of him back eating more. None of the commercials seem to encourage a lifestyle change to deal with the needed relief.
A reality for many is that more than just food should give them indigestion. There are many lifestyle choices that run counter to the will of God. There are hearts that should burn to direct toward the need of change. Rather than simply counteracting symptoms, there is the need for accepting the REAL CURE; JESUS CHRIST and the truth associated with Him.
To use the spelling of "R-O-L-A-I-D-S", the real relief in CHRIST is...
R - redemption and forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:14)
O - obtained access into grace in Him. (Romans 5:2)
L - life eternal. (John 6:47; 1 John 5:12)
A - abundant life. (John 10:10)
I - intercession on our behalf. (Hebrews 7:25)
D - deliverance from the wrath of God. (1 Thessalonians 1:10; Romans 5:9)
S - salvation to the uttermost. (Hebrews 7:25)
Oh, yes, what a relief! However, that really suggests the way to spell spiritual and eternal relief is J-E-S-U-S-C-H-R-I-S-T. That may not have the same ring to it as spelling Rolaids ®, but it does spell relief in a much more significant and eternal way. Praise God for such a cure as is found in JESUS OUR LORD and the life change that results in a right relationship with Him.
Have a great day ENJOYING THE LASTING BENEFITS ONLY JESUS CAN PROVIDE!

A Father's Influence!
[This focus was originally sent 06/19/2005 (edited some)]
A FATHER'S INFLUENCE!
On a number of occasions my wife has said to me, "You are your father's son." I'll take that as a compliment. Today is the first "Father's Day" [the sixth as of 6/20/2010] since my father's death last December. I thank God for the influence my father had in my life and especially the special focuses we shared during his last months, weeks, and days.
Fulfilling his desire, I had the privilege of speaking and sharing when we gathered for the service to celebrate his life. As I shared a glimpse of my father's life story I categorized the events of his life and his accomplishments under the headings of five things I had learned from him. Please allow me to briefly share those main points.
1. A STRONG WORK ETHIC. If you have a job to do you stick with it and get it done and do it well. Putting in an honest day's work (and a little extra) was what his example declared. He taught me it is important to be someone who can be depended upon. A statement Dad frequently made as he tried to encourage others to be involved was: "We all can't do everything, but we can all do something."
2. FAMILY IS IMPORTANT. They are to be provided for, encouraged and supported through the good and the bad. Dad showed genuine interest in the things in which we were involved.
I know that while we were growing up there were times when finances were tight. However, Dad and Mom handled things in a way which never made that our concern as kids. As far as we knew we always had all we needed and more.
3. THE OUTDOORS IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO SPEND TIME. I still have a love for tent camping because of our family vacations growing up. We walked through forests, played in the cold Pacific surf and walked the beaches, we explored some caves and caverns together, played in the snow, and hiked in the mountains and along rivers.
4. A LOVE FOR PEOPLE. Dad was a "people person". People mattered and he was the kind of man who would help just about anyone in distress. He also seemed to be able to get along with some that others had difficulty with. His ability to connect with others bridged all age groups.
5. SPIRITUAL LIFE IS IMPORTANT. God, His Word, and the church were important to Dad. Prayer was associated with every meal.
My Dad had faith. I remember when he received the diagnosis of cancer, it was a blow out of nowhere. However, his focus quickly turned to a determination to try what could be tried, but to trust God for whatever the future held. As I sat with him during his consultation before his first chemo treatment [June 2004] and during the treatment as well, he would mention (having Psalm 90:10 in mind) that a man's life is threescore and ten and his focus was that he had that with a bonus of 5 years.
Yes, my father was a gift from my Heavenly Father Who knows how to adequately supply what we need.
Jesus referred to earthly fathers who, regardless of character, knew how to give good gifts to their children, but went on to encourage...
"...HOW MUCH MORE WILL YOUR FATHER WHO IS IN HEAVEN GIVE GOOD THINGS to those who ask him!" (Matthew 7:11b ESV)
Have a great day REMEMBERING THE FATHER OF THE GREATEST GIFTS!

Behind The Scenes!
The original concept behind the word "hypocrite" was that of an actor playing a part on the stage. [Greek "hupokrites"; actor, stage player, or pretender] People watching a production know those on stage are only playing the part of a CHARACTER in the script, but when this becomes the manner of life, "hypocrite" is not a complimentary term. The stage actor walks on stage and performs in the light. However, what is their CHARACTER backstage behind the scenes? What kind of person are they really? Just as some performers may be loveable on the stage, there are some who have an aura of arrogance or some other ugly quality in dealing with others in real life. As someone has noted, "Character is what a man [or woman] is in the dark."
When some questioned Jesus as to why His disciples did not keep the traditions of the elders (Mark 7:1-5), His response pointed directly to their true CHARACTER.
We read. . .
"(6) And he said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of YOU HYPOCRITES, as it is written, 'This people HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, but THEIR HEART IS FAR FROM ME; (7) in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' (8) You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men."" (Mark 7:6-8 ESV)
Have we been guilty of giving God merely the lip service of our life? Do we recite lines from a "Christian script" trying to put on good appearances while such is actually far from the true CHARACTER of our heart? What are we truly like "behind the scenes"? What is our CHARACTER when away from the assembly of the church? What is revealed of our CHARACTER when away from Bible camp? What is the essence of our CHARACTER when we turn on the television (or choose to turn it off)? What does our choice of movies truly say regarding our CHARACTER? What does that which we bring up on the computer when behind closed doors say regarding our CHARACTER? What is the true essence of our being?
Are what WE BE and what we say reflective of the same essence or is our Christianity merely a part we play for others to watch. God knows and we know the truth regarding what is real and what is not. May our heart be truly drawn close to God so that He will be honored with our entire being. Then, whether in public or in private, it will be the light of the true essence of Christ that will be shining through us.
Have a great day GENUINELY FOLLOWING GOD'S SCRIPT FOR LIFE!

Fire Insurance?
Fire insurance is purchased to provide a means of replacing structures and possessions in case of fire. However, fire insurance does not prevent fires. Neither does it replace the loss of life. For the most part fire insurance is something for which people pay with the hope they never have to use it.
Some have viewed religion as "fire insurance" in the sense of it preventing them from going to hell. However, our relationship with Christ is MUCH MORE than eternal "fire insurance". It is more than being free from the fear of going to hell, being assured of our salvation in Christ. To be a disciple of Jesus, even to lose our life is to have it saved. (Luke 9:24)
Consider again a passage we noted earlier this month (06/06/2010) along with a couple verses leading up to it. In Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth he stated. . .
"(7) But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. (8) None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (9) But, as it is written, 'WHAT NO EYE HAS SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD, NOR THE HEART OF MAN IMAGINED, WHAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM.'" (1 Corinthians 2:7-9 ESV)
The quote Paul ended with is from Isaiah 64:4. The context appears to be that in anticipation of the coming Messiah there was much that was not understood and much that was misunderstood. That is why even those longing for that coming rejected Christ and handed Him over to be crucified. Had they understood, "they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." The problem was the Lord's coming and all that was associated with Him and His teaching was not what they had imagined.
The same is true regarding Jesus' second coming and our eternity with Him. There is much we do not fully understand, though we can still live in joyful anticipation of that time. And there is much about Heaven and our eternity with God we are not fully able to imagine either. God has PREPARED FOR US MUCH MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE. I believe whatever it will be like will be so glorious, our human finite minds presently could not comprehend it. May we therefore press on in abundant joy as we acknowledge that God, in Christ, has provided more than just the means of saving us from hell, but also in bringing us into His eternal glorious presence with our Lord Jesus Christ. May that realization keep the fire of our faith burning as we press on in anticipation of the day!

Avoiding Disqualification! (part 2 of 2)
What would we think if we had a personal trainer who was very over weight? Though they urged us on in weight training, cardio and endurance exercises, and proper nutrition, might we wonder if they were taking their own advice? Or could we look at them and draw the conclusion that the program they laid out for us does not work? If we accepted their program and became the picture of health, would be become concerned about their health condition that could ultimately cut short their life? Though a personal trainer might bring benefit to others, would they not be the loser for not exercising and eating healthy themselves?
In Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth he stated. . .
"(24) Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. (25) Every athlete EXERCISES SELF-CONTROL in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. (26) So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. (27) But I DISCIPLINE MY BODY AND KEEP IT UNDER CONTROL, LEST AFTER PREACHING TO OTHERS I MYSELF SHOULD BE DISQUALIFIED." (1 Corinthians 9:24-27 ESV)
Winning takes DETERMINATION! And just as good health takes DISCIPLINE, the same is true regarding spiritual health. Paul recognized how he could teach spiritual discipline and be disqualified himself if he failed to EXERCISE DISCIPLINE AND SELF-CONTROL in his own life. He could win many to Christ who would obtain the prize of an imperishable crown of life and be a loser himself if he did not practice what he preached. Therefore Paul was mindful of both teaching and setting a proper example in accordance with the Will of God. To hear him preach and to observe his life revealed the Way of God was the right path of life. His life revealed God's power and God's wisdom.
In Paul's first letter to Timothy he encouraged. . .
"(8) for while bodily training is of some value, GODLINESS IS OF VALUE IN EVERY WAY, as it holds promise FOR THE PRESENT LIFE AND ALSO FOR THE LIFE TO COME." (1 Timothy 4:8 ESV)
May our life clearly reflect how godliness really is the program that works and benefits for all things. Let us be mindful of developing a SPIRITUAL PHYSIQUE that others around us will desire to develop as well. God's spiritual regimen is the one for true champions. It is the one that fits us for a future eternity with Him.
Have a great day STICKING WITH GOD'S FITNESS PLAN!

Avoiding Disqualification! (part 1 of 2)
There are some who have won a competition, only to have that honor stripped from them because it was determined they had cheated either by breaking the rules or using drugs to enhance their ability. Rules for competition are established to level the playing field for all participants. The same expectations are there for everyone so that personal ability will be exerted and seen for what it is. Thus, in the preparation and training for the competition, everyone has an equal chance to compete and win.
Perhaps we could say the greatest contest in which we could engage is the one for eternal life. Satan wars against us. The world under his power tries to hold us back from becoming what God desires us to be. Though we ought to be thankful for God's great grace and mercy by which we are saved, we still need to put forth our best effort to press on faithfully in Christ.
In Paul's second letter to Timothy he stated. . .
"(5) An athlete is NOT CROWNED UNLESS HE COMPETES ACCORDING TO THE RULES." (2 Timothy 2:5 ESV)
To gain victory in this life there are rules God has provided for us to keep in mind. No cheating. No cutting corners. No bribing of officials is possible. We are to train and run to win! May we keep our sight set on the "crown of righteousness" (2 Timothy 4:8) to be awarded to us when we have crossed the Heavenly finish line.
Have a great day FOCUSED ON VICTORY WITH CHRIST!

Way Of Life!
Some people have a "Life Alert" button worn around their neck in case of a medical emergency in their home. On a wall we may see a red lever reading: "In Case Of Fire, Pull Down." Other postings read: "In Case Of Emergency Call 911", "In Case Of Abuse Call 1-800-FOR-HELP", etc. Knowing beforehand what to do or who to call can be a comfort rather than having to hunt up numbers in the midst of a crisis or panicking in not knowing where to turn for help.
Someone has said, "True prayer is a way of life, not just an emergency route." It is also not to be merely a panic button. Though there are times when we feel the immediate need for PRAYER, PRAYER is to be a regular part of everyday life. Continuing in unceasing PRAYER (1 Thessalonians 5:17) helps in maintaining the focus on God through all of life's varied situations. PRAYER is not to be a last resort. Our motto should not be, "When all else fails, PRAY!" PRAYER to God is something to keep always in the forefront of our mind as we recognize communication with our God can take place from anyplace and at anytime.
Paul urged those at Philippi. . .
"(6) do not be anxious about anything, but IN EVERYTHING by PRAYER and SUPPLICATION with THANKSGIVING let your requests be made known to God." (Philippians 4:6 ESV)
Though some in the world say otherwise, PRAYER is actually appropriate for all occasions because PRAYER is many faceted. We have needs both physical and spiritual of which we should PRAY. There is the continual need for guidance. And there is much for which we ought to be thankful in PRAYER to God.
In the Psalms we read. . .
"(1) GOD is our refuge and strength, A VERY PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE." (Psalm 46:1 ESV)
No numbers to remember. No button to push. No lever to pull down. God wants us to know He is attentive to our PRAYERS. (1 Peter 3:12) Though it has been said of some that they don't have a prayer, let us always remember we do. From anyplace and at anytime God hears us.
Have a great day CONVERSING WITH GOD ALL ALONG LIFE'S WAY!

Choosing Sides!
Someone has noted, "The only one among the twelve apostles who did not become a missionary became a traitor." This makes me think of our Lord's own statement signifying only two choices relative to Him and His mission.
Jesus said. . .
"Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does NOT GATHER WITH ME SCATTERS." (Matthew 12:30 ESV) [also Luke 11:23]
Are we CONTRIBUTORS TO THE MISSION of Jesus or are our lives working against it? Judas was where he received knowledge of the Lord's teaching and witnessed His power, but what did he CONTRIBUTE TO THE MISSION? He was even guilty of helping himself to the money bag he carried for the Lord and His disciples. (John 12:4-6) Perhaps that is why Judas was able to sell out his Lord at a price. (Matthew 26:14-16) His focus was more on self than on others.
If we are going to be mission minded we must have a focus beyond ourselves to the highest benefit of others. That is taking on the mind of the Lord Who willingly gave Himself on our behalf. Jesus is our great example of A GIVER rather than a taker. The taking He desires to do is to ultimately take us home to be with Him for eternity. HE GAVE Himself to make that taking possible. May we be noted as ones who CONTINUE GATHERING WITH HIM. It is the greatest work in which we could ever be involved.
Have a great day SIDING WITH THE LORD'S MISSION!

"Semper Fi !"
"Semper Fi!" is the Marine's motto and is Latin for "ALWAYS FAITHFUL." Now, I don't know how you might view the Marines, but it seems to me it is too good of a motto to allow the Marines to have a corner on it. The Marines might be the first to hit the beach, but they were not the first to come up with this idea. In fact, to me it sounds like a motto God instituted long before the Marines were even around. FAITHFULNESS is what God has continued to look for in His people.
Paul writing to the church in Corinth wrote:
"(1) This is how one should regard us, AS SERVANTS OF CHRIST and stewards of the mysteries of God. (2) Moreover, IT IS REQUIRED OF STEWARDS THAT THEY BE FOUND TRUSTWORTHY." (I Corinthians 4:1-2 ESV)
The Greek word Paul used here translated "trustworthy" is "pistos" which has also been translated "FAITHFUL" and "trustworthy". As Christians, we are servants of God. Therefore we must continue to acknowledge Him as the Master as we continue our involvement in doing the service of His will. As His servants, God has entrusted us with a mission. He has given us His Gospel (Good News) to share with others. He has also called us to make Him known through the manner in which we live our daily life.
Are we FAITHFUL to the trust? Are we willing to speak from our heart the motto, "Semper Fi!", "ALWAYS FAITHFUL!"?
Since we have been given a trust, let us show ourselves TRUSTWORTHY. God is FAITHFUL to all His promises for us. The best way to show God our appreciation is to be "ALWAYS FAITHFUL" in what He has called upon us to do.
"Semper Fi!" [Can you say it?] "Semper Fi!" [Can you mean it?] "Semper Fi!" [Can you recommit yourself and aim for it daily?]
"Semper Fi!" [I can't hear you!] "Semper Fi!" [Louder!] "SEMPER FI!" [Say it with all you've got!] "SEMPER FI!" [Mean it with all your heart!] "SEMPER FI!" [Live it with all your life!] "SEMPER FI!"
Have a great day REMAINING "ALWAYS FAITHFUL" TO GOD'S CALL!

Sincerely Yours!
We get letters (and e-mails) from family and friends that encourage and uplift us. They fill us in on news that is happening in their lives. Sometimes that news saddens us and other times is makes us SMILE! Someone has even said that "Letters are smiles across the miles." Those "SMILES" seem to draw us closer together in spite of the geography that might separate as the letters are cherished and read over and over again.
Think of how dear the correspondence was between Paul and the churches with which he had labored. Though he longed to be with them again, the letters were a source of encouragement. However, Paul did not hold back on what admonition or exhortation was needed. Though he regretted some grief caused by his earlier letter written to Corinth, he rejoiced in the repentance that had taken place. (2 Corinthians 7:8-9) His intent was not to frighten them (2 Corinthians 10:9), but whether present or away he would approach them as was necessary for their spiritual progress. (2 Corinthians 10:10-11) We benefit the same by taking his letters personally.
In Paul's letter to the church at Rome he stated. . .
"(4) For WHATEVER WAS WRITTEN IN FORMER DAYS was WRITTEN FOR OUR INSTRUCTION, that through endurance and through the ENCOURAGEMENT OF THE SCRIPTURES we might HAVE HOPE." (Romans 15:4 ESV)
Are we encouraged? Are we appreciating the instruction? Are we accepting God's Word as if it were a personal letter to us for our encouragement and progress? Are we eager to read the words over and over again? Does it make us SMILE because we know our best interests are behind all of God's instruction? Can we SMILE even when we read what needs to change in our life because we know the hope we have in Christ? All that God has revealed -- whether it be His promised blessings or warnings -- is a message of love because He desires for us to be with Him for eternity. May "the letters" continue to draw our hearts toward that home.
Have a great day CHERISHING THE MESSAGE FROM GOD!

Proper Life Focus!
It amazes me (though it probably should not) how often I come across a single passage of Scripture, that by itself can make a dynamic difference if applied to life. What a different world this would be if everyone followed the principles Jesus outlined in the Sermon on the Mount. (Matthew chapters 5-7) What a different world it would be if everyone loved God and others in the manner in which both the Old Law and Jesus instructed. (Matthew 22:37-39) Or how about the principles of interpersonal relations shared by Paul (Romans 12:9-21) or the principles of speech share by Paul (Ephesians 4:29) and James (James 3:2-12), etc.? And the list goes on.
Recently preparing for a Bible class discussion of the twenty second chapter of Joshua, I was drawn to seven important words in a single verse. As Joshua was releasing the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh to return to their possession on the east side of the Jordan, he urged. . .
"(5) Only be very CAREFUL to OBSERVE the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to LOVE the Lord your God, and to WALK in all his ways and to KEEP his commandments and to CLING to him and to SERVE him with all your heart and with all your soul." (Joshua 22:5 ESV)
Here we have addressed the proper manner of RELATING TO GOD AND TO HIS COMMANDS. With regard to the commands of God given through Moses they were to not just be careful, but VERY CAREFUL to OBSERVE them as they were to WALK in them and KEEP them. Then associated with their relationship to God they were to LOVE Him, CLING to Him and SERVE Him with their entire heart and soul. What a huge difference that would have made in Israel's history if they had always maintained such a focus on God's commands and on their personal relationship with Him. They would have retained their trust in Him. They would have continued to receive His bountiful blessings. A sincere LOVE for Him would have kept them from being drawn away into idolatry. However, too many times the commands of God were forgotten and their backs were turned on Him. (i.e. 2 Chronicles 29:6; Jeremiah 2:27)
What about us? How tightly are we CLINGING to God as we seek to SERVE His purposes in this life? Are we holding tightly to Him and His Way? As we read through the Scriptures are we being VERY CAREFUL to OBSERVE and KEEP what God is trying to reveal to us so that those practical principles become our life WALK? May we keep these seven words in mind: CAREFUL, OBSERVE, LOVE, WALK, KEEP, CLING, and SERVE! Let them always be words associated with our view of God and His Will. Such will aid in bringing all else into proper focus as well.
Have a great day KEEPING OUR FACE TOWARD GOD AND HIS WILL!

Excited About What?
Some people get excited about things that just don't excite me at all. For example, I've known people who would not let anything keep them from attending an oyster festival. Though I have learned to enjoy some seafood I at one time did not care for, I have still not been able to get excited about oysters. There are those who get excited about a trip to Las Vegas while I get excited about a trip into the mountains or around the water. Some people get excited about big sales, and though I love good deals, I prefer to not have to deal with the pushing crowds.
We do not all get excited about the same things. The reality is we only get excited about either WHAT WE HAVE or WHAT WE WANT. That is why so many do not get excited about Christianity; they either don't have it or they don't want it! Now, it is true some of these people get excited and come unglued when Christianity appears to threaten their way of life or thinking, but what does our life demonstrate that would make Christianity worth getting excited about in a positive way? If Christians live as if they have dined on pickle juice, how can the world ever be expected to see it as worth getting excited about?
Though life is filled with an array of experiences -- both bad and good -- what does the world see us getting excited about? We can find JOY in so many things, but in our discussion during last Sunday evening's Bible class, I shared how the greatest joy I have come to experience is seeing people respond to God's Word and allowing their lives to be changed through becoming united with Christ and surrendering to His Will. Every time I study with people and witness their acceptance of the teaching of Scripture, the JOY I experience is like no other. Why? First of all, because I see God's power and wisdom doing its work. And secondly, because it relates to that which is not only for this life, but for an eternity to come.
Peter wrote. . .
"(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (4) to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, (5) who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (6) IN THIS YOU REJOICE, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, (7) so that the tested genuineness of your faith -- more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire -- may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 1:3-7 ESV)
I can get excited about that! Though we -- like these to whom Peter wrote -- may experience life challenges that refine our faith like silver, we can GREATLY REJOICE! [The Greek word Peter used was "agalliasthe", from "agalliao", meaning "to exult" or "rejoice greatly".] Reborn in Christ into a "living hope" of receiving "an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading", how could we not REJOICE? Yes, that which is nothing like can be offered in this world, we can live excited about that!
Are those around us seeing in us a spirited sense of something worth living for that is truly out of this world? Such an acknowledgement will make a dynamic difference in our disposition of life even in the face of the challenges of this realm. May the excitement never end!
Have a great day BEING A LIVING TESTIMONY OF EXUBERANT JOY IN CHRIST!

Catching Some Rays!
The last couple days have been beautiful -- a reminder summer is quickly approaching. With that comes to mind a break from school studies, time for a summer family vacation, Bible camp, maybe a summer job, but also hopefully some time to just sit back, relax, and soak up some of those warm sun rays. Ah, yes, just sit back and catch some rays. Oh, that's good ... I could just lie her for hours ... Warm rays ... Light breeze ... Soft sound of the water lapping at the beach ... Birds chirping in the trees ... [HEY CARL! BACK TO EARTH! REMEMBER THERE'S A POINT HERE!] Huh? ... Oh, yes, as I was saying ... just catching some rays!
But how about most importantly catching some of the "SON'S-RAYS!"
Paul, writing in his second letter to the church at Corinth, reminded the brethren there of how Moses' face glowed when he came down from Mt. Sinai. In fact it glowed so brightly the people were afraid to look at him, so he wore a veil until the radiance began to fade. Each time Moses went into the presence of God, his face again would glow and the people would know God had been speaking to him.
Paul went on to state. . .
"(18) And we all, with unveiled face, BEHOLDING THE GLORY OF THE LORD, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." (2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV)
The Greek word translated "beholding" is "katoptrizomenoi" (from "katoptron", a mirror: "kata", down, "ops", an eye or sight) and in the Greek Middle Voice (as used by Paul here) signifies "to reflect as a mirror." [source: W. E. Vine's Expository Dict. Of N.T. Words] This meaning is footnoted in the English Standard Version as "REFLECTING THE GLORY OF THE LORD."
In order to reflect something we must stay in line with it. We have been called to be lights in the world. (Matthew 5:14-16) However it is not merely our own light, but rather THE LORD'S LIGHT that illumines us and reflects from our lives. Thus, for us to continue to REFLECT THE LORD'S GLORY our life MUST REMAIN IN LINE WITH HIM.
Let us keep our lives in line with and under the rays of the Son. Let us soak in the "SON'S RAYS" so that we will be enlightened to His Will and that His glory will be reflected in our lives.
Have a great day CATCHING HIS RAYS TO REFLECT HIS GLORY!

Hitching A Ride!
A few nights ago my wife picked up a hitchhiker when heading home from work. Actually she did not realize she had done so until she was already in the house. You see, the hitchhiker was a small slug that hitched a ride on top of her shoe as she had walked through the grass. Such was not what she wanted to carry with her.
HABITS have a similar manner of hitching a ride in our life. Have we not ever noticed we had a HABIT of some kind and wondered when we had picked it up? HABITS are developed gradually and once they become a HABIT they are not easy to shake. However, just as this is true with regard to bad HABITS, it is also the case with those that are good. By continually practicing that which is good and ought to be done, gradually such can become the HABIT of our life. Even when we are not thinking about them, they naturally remain a part of us.
The Hebrew writer exhorted . . .
"(24) And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, (25) not neglecting to meet together, AS IS THE HABIT OF SOME, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near." (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV)
The Hebrew writer was not addressing those who may have missed an assembling of believers from time to time, though such could gradually become the HABIT. He was addressing those who already had the HABIT. It was their manner of life. This was not a good HABIT because "neglecting to meet together" made it impossible to encourage others toward greater love and good works and to be encouraged in the same.
The Greek word translated "HABIT" is "ethos" and refers to a custom, habit, or manner. [source: W.E. Vines' Expository Dictionary of N. T. Words] In the English language we have a word that comes directly from this Greek word. In fact, the English letters correlate exactly with those of the Greek. The English word is "ethos", which is defined as "distinguishing character, tone, or guiding beliefs." [source: Merriam Webster's Dictionary]
It is the good and godly HABITS we need to allow to hitch a ride in our life. By consciously practicing the right things they will gradually become the HABIT, custom, and manner of daily living.
Earlier the Hebrew writer exhorted some who were apparently not growing, saying . . .
"(12) For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, (13) for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. (14) But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained BY CONSTANT PRACTICE TO DISTINGUISH GOOD FROM EVIL." (Hebrews 5:12-14 ESV)
Yes, "constant practice". That is what we need with regard to good practices. Even Jesus left us with a model of exemplifying a good HABIT in which His disciples followed.
We read. . .
"(39) And he came out and went, AS WAS HIS CUSTOM, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him." (Luke 22:39 ESV)
Here Luke also used the Greek word "ethos" that has been translated "custom". It was our Lord's HABIT or regular practice to get off away from the crowds and spend some time in prayer. We would do well to develop this HABIT also. With the HABITS of regular prayer and HABITUAL fellowship with other Christians we will lay the groundwork for the continuing development of other GOOD HABITS as well. May we shake off the bad as we practice what will accompany a healthy spiritual life.
Have a great day EXEMPLIFYING GODLY ETHOS IN OUR DAILY WALK!

This Side Of The Goal!
I want to be stronger! I want to be smarter! I want to be more mature! Those are worthwhile goals. However, though such ultimate aims need to be kept in mind, we get there by presently focusing on remaining STEADFAST and PERSEVERING in what will bring us toward those ends. To be stronger we must continue in working our muscles with resistance training to build up their strength. To be smarter we must continue the pursuit of study that will bring the knowledge desired. And to become more mature we must steadfastly refuse to bow to childish behavior, but rather leave some things to God while we grow bigger than the pettiness and immaturity often exhibited by the world around us. All of this is also true with regard to spiritual maturity.
James exhorted. . .
"(2) Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, (3) for you know that the TESTING of your faith PRODUCES STEADFASTNESS. (4) And LET STEADFASTNESS HAVE ITS FULL EFFECT, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." (James 1:2-4 ESV)
Instead of the word "STEADFASTNESS", some translations have "PERSEVERANCE". The Greek word used by James is the noun "hupomone", and though it has also been translated "patience" it literally means "a remaining under" [being akin to the verb "hupomeno" which means to abide under or bear up courageously (as when suffering)]. [source: W.E. Vine's Expository Dictionary of N.T. Words]
Though the goal James mentioned was that of becoming "perfect and complete", the present need is that of REMAINING STEADFAST under the testing experienced in this life. To resist giving in or giving up when forces in this world seem to want to stop our forward motion, we are to continue pressing on. With the abiding resolve to REMAIN STEADFAST in trusting God and living in accordance with His Will, we will continue to grow stronger, wiser, and thus continue maturing in our faith and walk in Christ. Overcoming life's challenges one day at a time may our present focus continue to move us toward the goal.
Have a great day ENCOURAGED BY EACH STEP THAT MOVES US CLOSER TO MATURITY IN CHRIST!

Not Of Own Imagination!
People have brought about things that began in their own imaginations. They have come up with that which their heart has desired. Such has even become the basis of religion. However, that is not the basis of Christianity as revealed in the Scriptures. It is not man's gospel, but the Lord's. (Galatians 1:11-12) As Paul exhorted the Corinthians, reminding them of the manner in which he had shared the Gospel (good news) of Jesus with them, he made it clear that the basis of his teaching was not his own lofty words and wisdom. He had kept the message simply focused on "Jesus Christ and him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2:1-2) Paul was not trying to develop a group of "Paulites", but bring all he taught to faith and life in Christ Jesus. Therefore, the power of the message was not in himself, but in the truth of the message accompanied by a demonstration of the power of God's Holy Spirit so that their faith would not rest on man's wisdom, but on God's power. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)
Then, beginning by quoting from Isaiah 64:4, Paul went on to state. . .
"(9) But, as it is written, 'What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, WHAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM' -- (10) these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God." (1 Corinthians 2:9-10 ESV)
The fulfillment of our salvation in Christ -- and the life to be lived in Him now and for eternity -- is not based on what man had seen, heard, or imagined, but rather on what God had in mind to bring about "before the ages for our glory." (1 Corinthians 2:7; see also Ephesians 1:4) The coming of Christ into the world to give Himself for our sins was not God's plan B, but what everything else had been working and pointing toward all along. (note 2 Timothy 1:9; Titus 1:2; 1 Peter 1:10-12) God needs no back up plan. Though we may recognize stages (or steps) in what God was bringing about, He had one plan with its ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ. May our life rest not on man's plans, but rather the plan of God!
Have a great day OPEN TO GOD'S PLAN AND THE BLESSINGS IT BRINGS!

I'm With Him!
We can receive a blessing when we are accompanied by the right person. Places where we might otherwise be denied entrance, being with one who is admitted can get us in as well. As we approach we may simply have to say, "I'm with him."
Not far into Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth, with reference to the Lord Jesus Christ we read. . .
"(8) who will SUSTAIN YOU TO THE END, GUILTLESS in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) God is faithful, by whom you were called into the FELLOWSHIP OF HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD." (1 Corinthians 1:8-9 ESV)
Having come into FELLOWSHIP WITH JESUS, though there are others passages that note the blessings of such fellowship, do we see the marvelous blessings Paul noted here? There is strength provided to SUSTAIN US TO THE END; whether that be the end of our life in this realm or until our Lord returns. Also, with Him, we will be found "GUILTLESS." The Greek word here is "anekletous" which means nothing laid to our charge (as in the result of a public investigation). [source: W. E. Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words] It is to be free from accusation. However, that blessing is only enjoyed IN CHRIST.
In Paul's letter to the church at Rome he stated. . .
"(1) There is therefore NOW NO CONDEMNATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS." (Romans 8:1 ESV)
What a blessing! IN CHRIST our condemnation has been removed. Our sins have been adequately dealt with by the power of His blood. Standing in FELLOWSHIP WITH CHRIST we are FREE FROM CHARGE OR ACCUSATION, being viewed IN HIM. And our God is faithful to what we have been promised IN CHRIST. May our life reflect sincere appreciation for the blessing of entering into such a sphere as the one IN FELLOWSHIP WITH HIM!
Have a great day SUSTAINED IN THE COMPANY OF JESUS!

Appreciating The Gain!
I believe that living in a world of "instant" this and "instant" that has played a role in making us a more impatient people; a people who don't want to wait for anything. Though I can remember being happy with how our first computer shaved time off of work I had previously done on a typewriter, I now find myself being impatient when my much faster computer takes thirty or forty seconds to do something. My wife chuckles when she hears me tell the computer, "You're wasting my time!"
When people say, "Time is money.", they are usually urging that time not be wasted. However, the gaining of money can take time and therefore patience needs to be exercised as the goal is being reached toward. The problem is that often what is too quickly gained is not fully appreciated.
Solomon stated. . .
"(21) An inheritance GAINED HASTILY in the beginning will NOT BE BLESSED IN THE END." (Proverbs 20:21 ESV)
Think about the parable Jesus told of the lost son. (Luke 15) Did he appreciate the inheritance he demanded to receive now (Luke 15:12) and then went and squandered away? (Luke 15:13-14) That inheritance was no blessing then as he found himself longing to be as well fed as the pigs he was feeding. (Luke 15:16)
Solomon also noted. . .
"(11) Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but WHOEVER GATHERS LITTLE BY LITTLE WILL INCREASE IT." (Proverbs 13:11 ESV)
Some translations refer to it as having been gained dishonestly or by fraud. However, as one handles whatever is gained wisely, "LITTLE BY LITTLE" it all adds up. As we establish life goals, we should also learn contentment (Hebrews 13:5; 1 Timothy 6:8; Philippians 4:11-12) and maintain a sense of appreciation for what we have. We are often more blessed than we may seem to indicate by our actions.
The process of gaining in spiritual growth should be viewed similarly, being of greater value than worldly wealth. (note 1 Timothy 6:6-7) As our faith is challenged so as to become stronger and we DAY-BY-DAY gain more knowledge of God and His Will, we continue to mature toward being the people God desires us to become. The gain of anything worthwhile takes effort and time. However, in the end there is blessing when the pursuit is a righteous one. May we continue working toward God glorifying goals. The ways in which God blesses us physically and spiritually can be used in ministry to His glory and praise. The gain we will then ultimately receive from Him will be out of this world!
Have a great day FOCUSED ON THE LORD AS WE ESTABLISH LIFE GOALS!

Relying On What Lasts!
What have we found to be most dependable in life? Our feelings? How consistent are they for always prompting the right actions or responses? What about news we receive by means of various media? Is that not many times a bit slanted to make a journalistic point rather than the mere reporting of facts? What about our peers? Do they influence us toward what is right or merely toward what may be popular for the moment? Do we turn to the world's experts or self-help books to get ourselves back on track? What have we found that offers greater stability for life choices than any of these?
Note the following short poem:
GOD'S ETERNAL WORD!
For feelings come and feelings go,
And feelings are deceiving;
My warrant is the Word of God
Naught else is worth believing.
I'll trust in God's unchanging Word
Till soul and body sever;
For, though all things shall pass away,
His Word shall stand forever.
[Author unknown]
Peter stated. . .
"(22) Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, (23) since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; (24) for 'All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, (25) BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD REMAINS FOREVER.' And this word is THE GOOD NEWS THAT WAS PREACHED TO YOU." (1 Peter 1:22-25 ESV)
As Peter noted the life we can gain through the power of GOD'S ABIDING WORD, he quoted from Isaiah 40:6 & 8. We have GOD'S DEPENDABLE AND STABLE WORD on which to rely rather than the changeable feelings we experience or the constantly shifting values of our world. This should be a comfort to us, knowing from one moment and year to the next, God's expectations will remain the same.
Some things were not meant to last forever. However, GOD'S WORD is and He has provided the means in Christ for our eternal existence as well. With our faith resting in the promises and Word of God we can live encouraged that our passing away in this realm will be our passing over into the eternal one.
Have a great day BASING OUR LIVES ON GOD'S GOOD NEWS!

A Good Reason!
Sometimes the reason for doing something is much closer than we think. Besides doing things because God has asked us to do them and because they glorify Him (which ought to be enough without knowing all the reasons why), there is good reason to consider how we treat and interact with others because that person we see in the mirror each day has many of the same needs and challenges. Therefore we should be mindful of the godly attribute of PATIENCE. I need to be PATIENT when it comes to the faults of others because they have to be PATIENT with the faults on which I myself am still having to work.
In Paul's first letter to the church at Thessalonica, he exhorted. . .
"And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, BE PATIENT WITH THEM ALL." (1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV)
As we consider Paul's full statement here, being PATIENT does not mean lack of concern for what may need to change, whether that be in others or in us. Paul urged to recognize when those who remain idle need to be admonished to get involved. Those who are fainthearted or timid need to be encouraged. And the weak need our help, not our condescension. However, in all of this there is the need for exercising PATIENCE.
Spiritual growth remains the expectation for all of us in Christ. Nevertheless, we are to be PATIENT while we attempt to urge others in it. That is what we should hope to receive from others as well. Thank God for His PATIENCE! Remembering what we have received from Him, may we mercifully extend it to others.
Have a great day BEING A REASONABLE ENCOURAGER OF OTHERS!

Figured Out?
When man analyzes, dissects, examines, and investigates the world around him, it makes him feel on a par with or a step above since he has figured it all out. Having conquered the knowledge he has sought after makes him feel superior to that which he has looked upon. Has religion been reduced to the same level? Though God has revealed many great and deep truths to us through His word, do we have God all figured out? We should greatly rejoice and be encouraged by what we do know of God, understanding He still holds some secrets. (note Deuteronomy 29:29) Though we should continue to learn more about and from God, do we acknowledge how we need a God bigger than our understanding? Someone has stated, "A religion small enough for our understanding would not be big enough for our needs." [original source unknown]
In Paul's letter to the church at Rome, he noted. . .
"(33) Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How UNSEARCHABLE are HIS JUDGMENTS and how INSCRUTABLE HIS WAYS! (34) 'For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, or WHO HAS BEEN HIS COUNSELOR?' (35) 'Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?' (36) For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen." (Romans 11:33-36 ESV)
God's wisdom is FAR ABOVE ours. (i.e. Isaiah 55:8-9; 1 Corinthians 1:25) That is why we cannot come to know Him and His Will by looking down on Him and make examination, but rather by LOOKING UP TO HIM to have our understanding always drawn toward Him. The reality is, I don't have "me" all figured out! How can I think I can have God all figured out? Praise God He excels in wisdom far above ours and has power mightier than ours. Therefore He is fully able to sustain us for this life and ultimately bring us to be with Him for eternity. He is big enough to be trusted and relied upon! Yes, to Him truly be the glory forever! Amen!
Have a great day TRUSING THE ONE WHO DOES KNOW IT ALL!
