Still To Be Honored!

Today is marked on the calendar and celebrated in America as "Mother's Day." It is a day to celebrate motherhood and all the work mothers do and have done to make a difference for their children, families, communities, and even within the church. Sometimes on this day women in the Bible are focused on in bulletin articles and sermons, and though such are meant to be encouraging, some mothers feel a little bit guilty during such lessons for not quite measuring up to those Biblical examples. However, in spite of their imperfection (and fathers have it too) the work God has chosen women to fulfill is a very HONORABLE and NOBLE one.

Though I am a father and grandfather, my own mother is still very significant to me. She remains a great encourager of my work. Just as she showed interest in the varied activities of my life while growing up, she still has an interest in what I do today. As my mother, she is still to be HONORED, RESPECTED, and ACKNOWLEDGE for the work she did as she played her part in making me what I am today.

In Paul's first letter to the church at Corinth he stated. . .
"(12) for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God." ( 1 Corinthians 11:12 ESV)

Significant? Most certainly! All a part of fulfilling God's plan! If there were no mothers, where would we be?

As we go about the activities of the day, do we find ourselves hearing the voice of our mother, reminding us how we ought to live? Is there a sense in which her counsel has become a conscience to guide us even when she is not around. How many have felt when growing up that their mother had eyes in every place and therefore one need be on their best behavior?

Solomon stated. . .
"(20) My son, keep your father's commandment, and FORSAKE NOT YOUR MOTHER'S TEACHING. (21) Bind them ON YOUR HEART ALWAYS; tie them around your neck. (22) When you walk, THEY WILL LEAD YOU; when you lie down, THEY WILL WATCH OVER YOU; and when you awake, THEY WILL TALK WITH YOU." ( Proverbs 6:20-22 ESV)

Thank God for those lessons our mothers have planted within our minds. Let them remain with us as Solomon described. Yes, mothers are to be HONORED. ( Ephesians 6:2) May it be so, not because we fear them, but because we love them and truly appreciate all they have given on our behalf. Thank you God, for your gift of mothers!

Have a great day ACKNOWLEDGING THE NOBLE ROLE OF MOTHERS!
Carl
