Our Attention!

There are things which occur that grab our attention. There are awesome happenings we may behold in a lifetime and then watch as time moves on in spite of them. Today's date always strikes me because of an event I observed thirty years ago today. I actually find it amazing that thirty years have passed since then, but the images are still fresh in my mind. After a couple months of doing a little belching of smoke and light ash, May 18, 1980 was the first major eruption of Mount Saint Helens in the southwest part of the state of Washington and we were living in the area at the time. We were crossing the interstate highway that Sunday morning -- a place where there was a clear view of the mountain -- on our way to the church building when she blew her top and sent ash spewing high into the sky; a large cloud that began to block out the sun before blowing east of where we were. Then we watched in awe as that grey cloud generated flashes of lightening. It was truly an attention grabbling display of the power of God's creation. Then, on the following Sunday morning we experienced the second major eruption, waking up to pitch dark due to the ash falling in our area. Today it is amazing how life has returned to a region that looked almost like a barren moonscape following the eruption's devastation.

There are things which happen that cause some to think it must be the end. It is true we should always be prepared for whenever the end may come, but in the face of the varied happenings in this life and the time of whenever the end does come ( Matthew 24:36), should not our focus as Christians remain the same?

One of the psalmists wrote. . .
"(1) GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH, a very present help in trouble. (2) THEREFORE WE WILL NOT FEAR though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, (3) though its waters roar and foam, THOUGH THE MOUNTAINS TREMBLE at its swelling." ( Psalm 46:1-3 ESV)

All that is around us is only for this life. (note 2 Peter 3:10) However, OUR LIFE WITH GOD IS FOR AN ETERNITY and He still has the power to make it so! Therefore, regardless of what is happening around us, may He continue to hold our attention as we place our UNSHAKEABLE TRUST IN HIM Who has power over all things!

Have a great day TRUSTING THE GOD WHO IS UNSHAKEABLE!
