Guard Against Shrinking!
Some clothing is carefully labeled with washing precautions. There are fabrics which should not be bleached or the colors will fade. Other fabrics are to be washed in cold water since hot water can cause them to shrink. If a garment shrinks it will no longer fit and therefore becomes insufficient clothing for the wearer.
Someone has said, "Pray for a faith that will not shrink when it is washed in the waters of affliction." In the heat of life's challenges or when hit by the waves of distressing times, does our FAITH keep its shape so as to fit appropriately with a steadfast trust in God as we continue our Christian walk?
The Hebrew writer exhorted and encouraged those going through challenging times. . .
"(36) For you have NEED OF ENDURANCE, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. (37) For, 'Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; (38) but MY RIGHTEOUS ONE SHALL LIVE BY FAITH, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.' (39) But we are NOT OF THOSE WHO SHRINK BACK and are destroyed, BUT OF THOSE WHO HAVE FAITH AND PRESERVE THEIR SOULS." ( Hebrews 10:36-39 ESV)
Yes, we need to retain a FAITH that does not shrink back in the face of life's challenges. The FAITH THAT FITS is that which is marked by a steadfast trust in God regardless of the trials in this realm. Such a faith will empower us to keep pressing on! May we continue WALKING BY FAITH -- "having put on the breastplate of faith" ( 1 Thessalonians 5:8 ESV) -- and so strengthen our life and be pleasing to God.
Have a great day WITH FAITH THAT FITS!
