Due Diligence!
As I presently sit at my laptop I can hear the chirping of baby birds behind me. I always know when their parents have brought in food because their chirping intensifies. Though I enjoy the sound of birds out in the yard, I'm not really happy with where these have nested. They have taken up residence in our attic. A couple years ago I replaced the screening over one section of the round vent holes just under the eaves of our house because a bird a pecked through and made a nest. However, this year they have returned and there are now two sections I need to re-cover because they have pecked through once again. I should have been more watchful and re-covered those vent holes before these birds had a chance to nest, lay, and hatch their eggs because now I must wait so as to not harm these babies.
Consider this in relation to our THOUGHTS. Oh, how quickly they can come to mind whether we want them or not. However, just like birds we may not be able to keep from landing and so with due diligence SHOO AWAY before they begin creating a nest to stay, it needs to be the same with THOUGHTS. When the wrong THOUGHTS come to mind we need to SHOO THEM AWAY before they have a chance to settle in. Then we can turn our focus toward that which ought to remain in our mind.
Paul urged. . .
"Finally, brothers, WHATEVER IS TRUE, whatever is HONORABLE, whatever is JUST, whatever is PURE, whatever is LOVELY, whatever is COMMENDABLE, if there is any EXCELLENCE, if there is anything WORTHY OF PRAISE, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS." ( Philippians 4:8 ESV)
May the THOUGHTS that fall into any of those categories be what we allow to NEST IN OUR MIND! All the rest, let us exercise due diligence in shooing them away. It is the THOUGHTS that are God glorifying that will hatch into proper actions.
Have a great day WITH WHOLESOME THOUGHTS MAKING THEIR HOME WITH US!
Carl
