The Rest Of His Story!

Biographies and autobiographies preserve a record of the actions and words of men and women who have touched the lives of others and left their mark on history's timeline. Through the reading of such we are sometimes inspired toward similarly making a difference in the lives of others. For some, volumes have been written and read again and again while for others the writings may have begun to collect dust to ultimately be forgotten.

As John was bringing his Gospel of the life and teachings of Jesus to a close, he made two very notable statements regarding our Lord. These are found at the end of the last two chapters where we read. . .

"(30) Now JESUS DID MANY OTHER SIGNS in the presence of the disciples, WHICH ARE NOT WRITTEN IN THIS BOOK; (31) but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." ( John 20:30-31 ESV)

And. . .

"(25) Now there are also MANY OTHER THINGS THAT JESUS DID. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that THE WORLD ITSELF COULD NOT CONTAIN THE BOOKS that would be written." ( John 21:25 ESV)

What a dynamic story is the story of Jesus. What an impact He had as He walked this earth. In light of John's declaration let me ask a question on which to meditate. Has HIS STORY ended? Think about that for a moment. Since Jesus lives and reigns eternally, is there not still more to HIS STORY? Our LORD'S STORY continues as lives are still being drawn to Him to be changed forever!

As disciples of Jesus, let us live with the acknowledgment that by the grace of God we have become a PART OF HIS STORY? There is a book in which our names have been recorded -- the Lamb's book of life" ( Revelation 21:27 and 20:12 & 15) -- that is of greater significance than the books written by man. Being a part of our LORD'S STORY may our daily lives continue to say something good about Him so that others may also desire to become a part of HIS STORY as well.
