Simple, Yet Profound!
There are songs of which we may listen with delight as little children sing them. In their simple innocence and easy acceptance of the truths of God's word, we may be warmed by their twinkling eyes and glowing faces and we may smile at how they can hardly keep their little bodies still as they sing their hearts out. Do we grow up and leave those songs behind? Though the verses may sound simple and the thoughts be what we have heard hundreds of times, are there still not deep truths to grip our soul? I'm glad we have a song leader in our congregation who still sees the value in those songs and leads us all in them from time to time.
"Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so; Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me; Yes, Jesus loves me; Yes, Jesus loves me; The Bible tells me so." [Anna B. Warner (1860) and William B. Bradbury (1862)]
To be honest with you I almost shortened that chorus with a few dots, knowing we all know what followed. However, is that declaration not worth repeating? There are other verses to this song and we do sing them, but think about the immense significance of just this one verse and the chorus. Do those words still have profound meaning for us today regardless of how old we are? In reality should those words not mean even a great deal more to us who have come to know more about Jesus, all He was willing to do on our behalf, and the eternity He has gone to prepare for us? Do we not know more about Jesus now than when we first sang the words of that song?
The Bible tells us many things. We need to keep going back to The Book on a daily basis. However, we must guard against skimming over words and concepts we have heard again and again and again. May they never lose their significance , but instead MEAN EVEN MORE to us every time we read them. "Yes, Jesus loves me." Do we KNOW it?
In the "revelation of Jesus Christ" ( Revelation 1:1) recorded by John, we read. . .
"(4) John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, (5) and from JESUS CHRIST the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him WHO LOVES US AND HAS FREED US FROM OUR SINS BY HIS BLOOD (6) and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." ( Revelation 1:4-6 ESV)
"YES, Jesus loves me." I can hear the voice of one of the children in our congregation with that emphatic "YES" right now. Yes, it is true! It is never to be doubted!
"Yes, JESUS loves me." That's right, He's the One! The One not only of significance for this life, but for all eternity!
"Yes, Jesus LOVES me." Oh, yes, that is what He does and He does so dearly. That is why He left Heaven, walked this earth, put up with opposition and ridicule, and clearly revealed the genuineness of His perfect love through His self-sacrifice on the cross in order to provide us with forgiveness of the sins that were separating us from God.
"Yes, Jesus loves ME." Yes, it is very personal. We individually are very significant to Him. That personal relationship with Him is to be cherished above all!
Simple, yet profoundly significant. Knowing that Jesus loves us, we should be encouraged by all that has no power to separate us from that love. ( Romans 8:38-39) May we never lose sight of the profoundness that "Yes, Jesus loves me." After all, the Bible does tell us so. And like His love, God's Word is true!
Have a great day KNOWING EMPHATICALLY THAT YES, JESUS LOVES US!
Carl
