Up Minded!
In connection with the use of computers we refer to downloading and uploading. Both relate to the transfer of data and information. But what about our thinking? Do we most often find ourselves "down-thinking" or "up-thinking"? What I am referring to relates to our life perspective. Where are our minds? We have all most likely had the experience of taking a trip without leaving our chair; our body physically being one place while our mind is somewhere else. Perhaps we even resented having those thoughts interrupted and our mind brought back into the "real" world. However, is it possible for our mind to actually be on that which is real and of greater significance than where we physically are?
In Paul's letter to the church at Colossae, he exhorted. . .
"(1) If then you have been raised with Christ, SEEK THE THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (2) SET YOUR MINDS ON THINGS THAT ARE ABOVE, not on things that are on earth." ( Colossians 3:1-2 ESV)
The Greek in these two verses more literally refers to UP-SEEKING and UP-THINKING. Is our seeking with an upward aim and our thinking with an upward gaze? Do we truly love and desire above all that is earthly, the THINGS ABOVE? Certainly we still need to guard against being so HEAVENLY MINDED that we are of no earthly good. Still, with the MIND ON HEAVEN our perspective regarding the things of this earthly realm will be kept in balance while we eagerly wait in expectation of the greater glories to come. This is the way we join with God in His will being done on earth as it is in heaven. ( Matthew 6:10) Therefore, in this sense it is not only proper, but also essential for us to live with our minds in another world; the HEAVENLY ONE. May we keep it up!
Have a great day SEEKING HEAVEN'S PERSPECTIVE!
