To Be Man's Best Friend!
Man's best friend! Who is it? Usually it is a dog mentioned as being man's best friend. But why? What is it about a dog that may have given rise to such a compliment? Is it the loyalty in companionship? Is it the acceptance? Is it the eager joy in which they greet their master? For a good number of years we had a dog named Princess who would greet us with her tail wagging quickly back and forth to such a point it almost seemed she would break her tail as it hit against walls, door jams, table legs, chairs, etc. Then, when we would just say her name, that tail picked up momentum. We had to be careful where she was because that tail could easily knock something off a shelf. What a girl! What a tail! But, hey! Maybe that's it right there! Maybe that's the thing that has branded the dog as man's best friend! Maybe it's the fact that our dog wagged her tail instead of her tongue!
Isn't that a picture of a good friend; one who will lift your spirits with the joy of spending time with you rather than tearing you down with their words?
Solomon wrote:
"There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but THE TONGUE OF THE WISE BRINGS HEALING." ( Proverbs 12:18 ESV)
What is pictured in our lives? God created dogs with a pretty good intelligence. How are we doing? May we be the kind of friend we desire to have as we offer words that promote healing.
Have a great day taking a lesson from "MAN'S BEST FRIEND"!
