Life Companion!
As I have done each year for quite a number of years now, with this new year I have once again begun reading through the entire Bible. (It is not too late for you also to being by reading three to four chapters from the Old Testament and one in the New Testament at least six days a week to be able to read through the entire Bible in one year.) My effort again this year is to read as if I had never read it before. Approaching GOD'S WORD with the attitude "Oh, I have read this before" is close to the feeling I really don't need to read it because I already know it. However, when I read with fresh eyes I am often amazed at what concepts I had missed during other readings. Sometimes it is because of what I am presently experiencing that causes some principles from GOD'S WORD to be more vivid and practical this time around. Other times my understanding of other portions of Scripture brings what is presently being read into a clearer light. Then as I read, I am praying for God's wisdom to guide my in applying those truths in the actions of the day.
As Solomon encouraged his son toward the accepting of the wisdom of the words God has preserved for us to read even today, he stated. . .
"WHEN YOU WALK, they will lead you; when you LIE DOWN, they will watch over you; and when you AWAKE, they will talk with you." ( Proverbs 6:22 ESV)
Solomon then went on to address some warnings applicable to righteous living that the daily guidance of GOD'S WORD can provide. Remaining open to and continuing to meditate on what we read from GOD'S WORD allows it to always be with us TO LEAD, bring the SWEET REST that comes from trusting God and living in a right relationship with Him, and when we awake to each new day they will remain that STILL SMALL VOICE as we step out into the day God has provided.
Let us allow GOD'S WORD to truly be our "life companion" day and night. May it be our constant guide in our homes and may we also not leave home without it. Whenever we need wisdom for living GOD'S WORD is always the best source from which to draw to bring godly consistency to life.
Have a great day ACCOMPANIED BY THE TRUTH!
Carl
