Walking Dead?
Mindless eating: the act of eating without really thinking about it. I must confess popcorn is that food for me. I can have a bowl of popcorn beside me while I am reading or watching television, and before I realize it, it is all gone. Almost robotically handful after handful is drawn to my mouth as the salty treat is consumed. Popcorn may not be the worst food of which to be guilty of mindless eating, but such activity can take a toll on the health when one eats without really being conscious of it whether hungry or not.
Mindless living: the act of living without a proper purpose or focus for life. We might describe it as walking around with an appearance of living, but "brain dead" spiritually. Paul noted how some through living "self-indulgent" lives were "dead even while [they] live." ( 1 Tim. 5:6 ESV)
In Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus, he reminded them of where they once were.
"(1) And you WERE DEAD IN THE TRESPASSES AND SINS (2) IN WHICH YOU ONCE WALKED, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience." ( Ephesians 2:1-2 ESV)
Rather than acknowledging and following God and the Spirit of Truth, this was the condition of following the way of the world and the will of Satan and his spirit at work in the disobedient. Though living, they were "walking dead", being separated from God in their sins.
Paul went on to note where the Ephesians were at the present time because of the great love and rich mercy of God. ( Ephesians 2:4) They were made "ALIVE TOGETHER WITH CHRIST", having been saved by grace. ( Ephesians 2:5) Rather than the mind being focused on the flesh ( Ephesians 2:3), they became focused on Christ and had been raised up with Him. ( Ephesians 2:6)
It is the life ELEVATED WITH CHRIST that is TRULY LIVED! In fact, it was for this purpose Christ came; that we might "have life and have it abundantly." ( John 10:10 ESV) Because of Christ we can TRULY LIVE now and for eternity with Him. Praise God for the spiritual resuscitation we can have in Christ. May we embrace the TRUE LIFE He provides as we live out our time here on earth for His noble and eternal purposes.
Have a great day BEING ALIVE IN CHRIST!
